Roll call ~ Saturday, April 26, 2025

Raining this morning. Will green up the lawns, which turn brown over the winter in our climate, and bring out the flowers everywhere. Has gotten into 70s every day this week.
Forgot to check in yesterday… somehow got very sidetracked from everything I was going to do.
Sourdough doesn't use store bought yeast, but I think it has wild yeast from the air that grows in a culture ("the starter") a few weeks. Delicious bread though. Two of my kids and maybe one GD have celiac disease and have to eat gluten free. Otherwise they get symptoms similar to IBS, I think.
Hopefully a more organized and productive day for me today. Onward and downward…

Mornin' gents.
Meant to mention yesterday that I read about the hiker mom that fell to her death at Purgatory Chasm in Massachusetts. Isn't that an area that you go hiking, Mike? Really bizarre accident.
Its raining here all day, of course, its my Saturday off. I'll probably get to the lake and swim the dogs, and I might put the boat in to give it a go and see if works as advertised by the mechanic. Its warm enough, and I won't melt.
Onward and downward ;-)

Good morning!
Gentlemen, thank you for the bread ideas. I made a recipe almost identical to what Lee posted. It came out good enough that it was Connie approved. I'll tweak it a bit next time. I've never tried the Irish soda bread, and I've never started sourdough on my own. I'll keep those in mind. I had thought that she might need to go gluten free, but she tested negative for gluten sensitivity.
Today will be about beating the rain. I want to mow, weed whack, and clean my very dirty car (inside and out.) I also need to pick up a few more things at the store to help Connie. Since I've retired, I have done all of the cooking. I have done more baking than I have in decades. Now that we know what NOT to make, I have a better chance at making food that does not irritate Connie's IBS symptoms. It will take 10 days to 2 weeks for her to really start noticing if cutting out yeast is helping her. She has already noticed less belly cramping. I think we are on a better track now.
Have a great day!

I hadn't heard about the Purgatory Chasm accident. I and DD were just there a week ago on our way home from Good Friday services, although we just hiked in the woods near the chasm and didn't go into it. I love the place, lots of rock scrambling, has a bizarre prehistoric look, incongruously set in typical New England woodland. Now and then people try rock climbing there, or up on the rim they peek over the edge for the view… There's signs everywhere warning hikers of the dangers. The victim had 3 of her kids with her when she fell 90 feet. Ughhh.

Good morning gentlemen.
Hope Connie responds well to the dietary changes.
The guy came and installed the new back on my recliner. Fingers crossed that this one stays together. I already disassembled the old back to salvage the leather it was upholstered with. Rita was working on the lawn sprinkler system, getting it ready for the summer, and discovered there is a break in one of the PVC lines. Can't fix it today or tomorrow, so on my list for Monday, if it doesn't rain. They have sliding expansion couplers now that make such repairs a lot easier than they used to be.
DGS soccer match this afternoon. Kids have lost every game, so far, but they have fun.

Good Morning,
Sunny and warming into 80's today,
DGS's team had not won a game all season till last night, now they have to play three more games.
Need to do some cleaning around here, limited with one arm.
Hope chair holds up now, can remember when Lazy Boy was gold standard in recliners.

Good Morning
Those poor children, seeing their mother fall to her death.
Yesterday was one of those drizzly days all day. Not enough rain to really matter but enough to annoy. Slowly getting used to it. Today we are off to the event center for the Rhody Flower show & sale. Flower show is in the afternoon. It is the precursor to next month's Rhody Festival. Rhodendrens are a thing here. The local shuttle bus is called The Rhody Express and the long rode along the river is Rhododendron drive. We have 6 or so in various states of health in our yard. The early bloomers are out and do brighten everything up around town. We won't be buying anything. But we will see what it is, take it all in and continue to learn how to take are of the stuff in our yard. Succulents and Drought gardening was alot easier, but not as colorful. Succulent bloom but not in such abundance.
