May 2025 Move Your @$$ Challenge

Okay @$$ movers, here's the new thread for the MAY 2025 Move Your @$$ Challenge!
PLEASE READ the directions below.
We welcome all newbies and welcome back to the oldies!
"Rules of the Challenge"
- Set your goal and post it to the thread....distance ONLY (Miles or KMs) - NO minutes, NO # of workouts, NO # of calories, NO # of steps - DISTANCE ONLY.
- Make your ticker if you want to use one (see directions below or in the FAQ thread) or add your goal to the thread.
- Get moving your @$$ starting on the first day of the month.
- Post as often as you can to the thread so we can keep the sheet (see link below) up to date. You are welcome to report what you are moving each time BUT please make sure you post the TOTAL miles (or kms) moved each time you update.
Please don't post any previous month's miles here. We will continue updating the previous month's spreadsheet using the old thread for approximately the first 5 or so days of the new and current month. Please add only your current month's goals/miles to this thread. Got it?
The purpose is to set a distance goal (KM or Miles) and track your distance for the month - please only do one or the other...if you are doing KM just report in KM - we have a formula in the spreadsheet that will convert it to miles for us.
You are challenging yourself, not competing against anyone else.....the distance can be on a treadmill, stairmaster, elliptical, bike, roller blades, walking, running, biking, hiking, swimming (if you can measure).....just set a distance goal and do the work.
Report to the thread often to keep us updated because we track our info on a spreadsheet (see link below) so you can see how you are doing compared to the group but not to openly compete with them. Whatever goes on inside your own brain is your own business.
The idea is to set your goal and reach it before the end of the month.
Welcome to all - new and old.....have a great month challenging yourself!
Link to the Google spreadsheet where you can view (but not edit). The Challenge Admins will update it for you at mostly random times.....but typically a day or so. Don't hold us too tightly to that though.

Directions for making a ticker:Go to either www.tickerfactory.com and create a Fitness ticker. Then copy the "BB code" and paste it into your posts on this thread each time you do an update. (More detailed info is located in the FAQ thread on the MYAC Group page.)
Welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay and that you find this helpful in realizing your fitness goals!

I have a co-worker who had never heard of May Day and thought we were having her on when a group of us old ladies were having a chat about what we did for May Day. (A&E milk cartons, pipe cleaners, Easter grass, handprint flowers, a few chocolates, and some jelly bird eggs. If you were too slow to get to the art supplies, you had to make your handle out of construction paper instead of pipe cleaners.)
I'm in for 40 miles this month. :)

I am in for 120 miles this month. We are recovering from the storms that swept across the country. My school district is closed for day three. The the intersection at the top of my street wa blocked for two days with a huge tree. Power has been out for many since Tuesday and some may not have it till Monday.
Janet: Thanks Dave and Janet for keeping out miles.hHope your pups and you are having calmer uneventful days.
Chris: Hope you are healing and feeling better.
Lib__kk: We use to do a Maypole Dance in elementary school. Little did we know it was a pagan fertility dance. (The meaning of the maypole dance is to celebrate the spring and the upcoming summer seasons. It is also a celebration of nature and fertility.)
May 1: 10.25 miles walking today

@clepant - I remember years ago I was living in New Jersey and we lost power after a late season hurricane for two weeks. After the storm it turned cold. We had no heat but we couldn't leave because we had dogs. I was never so glad to see anyone as when I saw a power truck from Ohio come up our street. Then after Hurricane Ian here in Florida it took almost two months to restore the transmission lines and when we finally got power back it was a crew from Maine! I love how the power companies help each other out after an emergency.

@Agree Janet. I told the guys from Philly, how much we appreciated them coming to help. We have not had this much damage for at least 10 years. We had a microburst go through a few years ago, but this was fast and furious and over in a matter of a few minutes. No tornado this time, just a straight line of wind with a quick burst of rain.
I went through residual of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.We had only gotten married a year earlier. My husband made his way home and had no clue where he was going as he was from Norristown, but stopped to direct people because of foooding. He sent them to higher grounds for two hours till fire police took over. He never knew where they were going, just up. I had to stay behind at school because all our buses were coming back due to flooding. Kids so panicked. I sent many to my gym to play while I monitored the situation with two secretaries and my bus monitor team mate. We were calling parents, who had to come back to get them. Then I led a caravan around flood areas with me in my suburban. I told them that if I got stuck don’ t follow. I lead 10 cars to their homes via back roads. My hubby and I just dug a new drain along our house to keep water out of our home. He put a sump pump in our old well and we pumped off a gallons of water every 30 secs into our stationary sinks. It was the one of the worst floods in Pittsburgh with 24 hrs of nonstop rain.
We still have many without power. They say another two days possible and we still have weakened trees falling and taking out more power lines. Today is our annual Marathon. It will be rainy.May3: 5.5 miles walking in rain throughout the day.
TTD: 21.4 miles

@clepant - the line men do get paid well to help in emergencies, but still, they are away from home and family for a significant time so I'm sure it is not easy. The story of your Hurricane Ivan flooding is really scary. It was good of you and your husband to step up and help. Here's hoping the rest of the current mess is cleared soon and that all the marathoners are safe today.
