Mary 2025 Walks & Workouts

This morning I was able to pull myself out of bed and do a 10 min walk with Improved Health and then 10 min Barre Arms with Mik. Today I'll play a little catch-up, but I'm looking forward to a relaxing but productive weekend. I have a new plant stand coming this weekend, which is perfect timing, as my son gave me an Orchid for my birthday.
Yesterday's birthday included lunch with friends, and for dinner, I splurged on a tour of Italy from a local restaurant. I still behaved myself. Putting the lasagna away for later, along with half of the fettuccine Alfredo. So, I had chicken with half of the Fettuccini Alfredo. π€£
Ry made it to PT yesterday for a Graston session on his calves. He felt SO much better afterwards.@Elfirose33 OH MY! What a week you've been having. When it rains, it does pour, and hopefully we find someone with an Umbrella to help us through it. I'll keep you, you're Dad & Dottie in my thoughts.
@megd44 I was so happy the sun came out yesterday.
@zichab Not that you were looking, but this is the Barre Arm workout I found this morning. I think I like it batter than the 1st one but we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I did the color walk today! The blue, yellow, purple and green walks! It is fun! I also completed the 300,000 steps in the May Garmin Challenge and am in 2nd place for the 90K May Steps podium. That is a competition with other Garmin users. It's fun! I already got on the May steps podium for 85K this month so the 90K would be an additional challenge, which I did not know automatically happens! Garmin just moved me to the 90K! π³ I don't really care, but it is fun to see everyone's steps that is in the challenge.
Oh no @Elfirose33 ! Is your Dad going to be OK? It is very scary when they admit a parent to the hospital, I know! My heart goes out to you! β€οΈ I will be thinking of him and sending good mojo his way!
@Deeder522 I hope you enjoyed the cake, wine and beer I sent for your birthday!!!π€£ I am glad it was happy! Getting older is no joke, but the alternative is far worse! π
I'll be back tomorrow with a 3 mile walk and the Barre Arms torture ..er .. workout! π

It felt pretty good waking up this morning. I cranked out 1 Mile of Burn Body Fat with Leslie, then 5-8 minutes of arm strength training, and finished off with 7 minutes of balance training. 30 minutes total logged according to the watch.
It looks like we have a decent holiday weekend in store for SW Michigan. Maybe I can sneak in an outdoor walk as well. π€0 -

We have to go to the VA in Albany next week so I need to change my workouts around. Because of that, my first BARRE ARM workout will not be until next Friday and I am going to try 2 pound weights!!!! I know β¦ getting brave here, but I have mastered the 1 pound workout and do 10 full minutes each time, so I think it is time to up the weight!
You are very lucky @Deeder522 ! We will remain in the 50sF with rain through Sunday. They say Monday will get to 65F with maybe some sun, but more showers are also expected. Why they use the word "more" I have no idea! Just say showers will continue and the sun might interrupt them for a few minutes! πβοΈ In any event, it has been so cold and rainy that the Hemlocks have not yet dropped their pollen so we do not even have our outdoor table or screen porch cleaned or set up yet. Our holiday will be celebrated in the dining room I guess. Good for you cranking out the workout after the week you have had! πββοΈποΈ
Tomorrow is my Sunday 5 mile walk-until then-have a great evening! π

Ry joined me for a 1 mile walk in the Park yesterday before dinner. I had to make him pause a few times just to make sure he didn't try to overdo it.
I'll focus on cleaning today and spend some time in the kitchen. I have a recipe from 1943 I want to try out for Ry. Rhubarb and Strawberry Meringue. All the ingredients look Ry safe. Fingers crossed.0 -
May Goals
Miles Tracked: 59 / 75
Apple Challenge: Close all my rings 13x 11/13
Happy Memorial Day!!
I got up and got a 20 min workout with Improved Health done 1st thing. Yesterday, I did all the vacuuming and then made Rhubarb Strawberry Meringue from my 1943 cookbook. This was my 1st attempt at meringue, and without saying too much, I'll need more practice. πIt's the final week of May. It's time to start thinking about June goals, while we make a final strong push to the end.

Oh my gosh! I never finished my post yesterday! I said, that although the walk says "boosted" I did not boost at all! Walking 5 miles is enough! LOL There β¦ on to today I guess.
@Deeder522 I am so glad Ryan is able to walk with you. Meringue is a royal pain! If there is the tiniest bit of yolk, they will not whip. If it is too warm, they will not whip! If the moon is not in the 7th house they will not whip!!! etc. UGH!!! These days, eggs cost too much to be so darn fussy!!!! They simply need to whip when we beat them Period!!! π
We actually had some sun this morning and we were so unused to it that it was blinding!!! βοΈ Thankfully, it did not last long and we are back to overcast and rain. It's annoying for all those people who want to put their boats in this weekend. though.
I am thinking about June goals, but have not totally decided yet what I should do. I have exceeded April miles, which I did not think was possible. However, I really want to focus a bit more on strength and incline walks so I am ready to hike the mountains in July. That sounds easy since I live on a very hilly road, but there are also a TON of flying biting insects out as well because of all the rain, so I am not sure I am up to doing battle with them. Such a huge first world problem i know! ππ
Have a Wonderful Memorial Day! π

Sorry for my absence, it's been non-stop here. My dad was discharged from the hospital yesterday and he's doing very well! He's come a long way. Recent days have all run together, and I'm trying to get back in the swing of my own life again. Finding my normal routine again will help. It seems a long time ago the last time I posted here, there's been so much going on. I was not able to go to any of my gym class workouts last week because they all were at times when I had to do something for my dad. I did keep moving, however. On Friday I mowed 90 minutes and I did 40 lunges, each leg (I'm all caught up now on the lunges) and I walked Dottie 25 minutes in light rain. Saturday a friend and I went to a big neighborhood garage sale (which helped me recover a bit from all the goings-on) and that evening I walked Dottie 20 minutes. Sunday I walked Dottie 25 minutes. Yesterday I did 20 lunges, each leg, and walked Dottie for 40 minutes in the cold rain. I love walking in the rain.
@Deeder522 I'm so glad you had a nice birthday! Orchids are lovely:) Thank you for keeping my family in your thoughts. Did you get some nice weather over the holiday weekend? It mostly rained here the whole weekend, but I love rain so it worked for me. You're not alone, I would need more practice at meringue too! Good job trying and that all sounds delicious! I love old cookbooks. Good workouts!
@zichab The color walk sounds fun! And good job achieving 2nd place! Thank you for sending all the good mojo our way⦠it worked! My dad is doing SO much better now! Excellent job mastering the 1-lb weights for 10 minutes every time. Sounds perfect to move up to 2-lb weights, you are blazing! And wow, good job exceeding April goals!
1 -
@zichab sorry you are still having yucky weather!! That makes it tough. Great job on the challenges!!
@Deeder522 so glad you had a great birthday. And that you and Ry have been able to get on some nice walks. Can't wait to hear how the merengue recipe turns out.
@Elfirose33 so glad to hear your dad is home!! That is tough stuff and good to hear you are managing.
I went to my siblings place on a small lake about an hour away. Generations of my family have been there. Three of my siblings now own 4 places there, but there is room for all of us and we are totally welcome. Was great to see several of them. Did lots of walks with my oldest sister (67) and lots of playing with my great nephews. Full body toddler hugs are the BEST. They make all the worries disappear.
Knocking my challenges off slowly but surely. Should hit all the goals, except the C25k training, by the end of the month.

So very happy the weather is improving. Got my 2.25 mike walk outside this morning. Think that'll be my plan until October, unless it is raining. Will add some strength training again too. And hopefully some evening walks with hubby and pups. Rich is redoing our deck now so he us pretty much done after dinner.

I enjoyed a 2 mile walk after dinner last night. I slept hard last night, so I needed some encouragement to wake up. 1 Mile Express Walk with Leslie did the trick.
Last night's walk also won me the May Apple Challenge.
I also learned that 1 should put Rhubarb strawberry meringue in the fridge and not leave it on the counter. π Good thing, Rhubarb is in season, so I can try another batch.@megd44 As an only child, I'll admit to some jealousy over time spent with extended family. Ryan comes from a very broken family. It's rare to hear from them.
@Elfirose33 I'm so glad to read that your Dad has been released. And that you were able to decompress with a little garage sale-ing.

So much happened today! First, I completed the West Highway Way Expedition in Garmin! Second, I saw my MD and she has reduced my supplemental iron from 2 325mg tabs to 1!!!!!!! YES!!! I also do not have to come back until December for my annual check up unless I begin to feel tired again. Then I need to call pronto!!!! I was so happy about it all that I did 2 workouts today! LOL
@Elfirose33 Such exciting news about your Dad!!!!! I can see you got busy once the threat was over! LOL 40 lunges?? Do you have any legs left to help Dad if he needs it??? ππ€£ I know it helps to relieve the stress to work out, be busy and then hit the garage sales and thrift stores!
Thanks for the sympathy @megd44! We're up to 75 today with some sun, but rain again tomorrow. π It's just endless! Congratulations on meeting all your goals this month even with your back issues. I am going to do the Annapurna Circuit next.
@Deeder522 Congrats on meeting your Apple challenge!!!!! That is a nice end to your birthday month!
Tomorrow we will be going to the Albany VA and the Apple store to see if they can start Dennis' Gen 4 iPad so he can get his pictures from it. We'll see what the geniuses (for those of you who are not familiar, Apple calls the techs who work in their stores geniuses, which I think is so adorable) can do with that little problem. I think he is out of luck, but we shall see!!! I'll report back! LOL We may do a 2 mile walk in the hotel, but I am not sure, so I did both cardio and strength today in case. If not, I'll be back on Friday. π

Yesterday I walked Dottie 20 minutes. Today I did 80 minutes Tai Chi, I mowed for 35 minutes, I walked Dottie 20 minutes, and I did 20 lunges (each leg).
@megd44 I am too, thank you:) That sounds like a very special getaway place with your family, and those are the best hugs ever! Great walk and well done on all of your challenges! I'm so glad the weather is getting nice where you areβ-you've waited a long time for that! Sounds like a very good plan until October. That will be exciting to have a new deck.
@Deeder522 Good walks and good sleep, a winning combination! I wouldn't have known that about meringue either. And hey, I'm a singleton too! Thank you so much:)
@zichab Congratulations on all your accomplishments! Very cool, way to go! Thank you:) Yes, it's all been a big stress reliever! Have fun in Albany!

A little bit different workout this morning. I kept doing walks until my watch said I had "walked" 1 mile. I ended up doing a Walking with Weights from Improved Health and then a video from Leslie.

A little drizzly this morning, but still managed to get just over 2 miles in before it got too wet.
@Deeder522 I come from a big family and am so grateful that most of the siblings are close and enjoy spending time together. And that there is a place for us to get together. Getting a good night's sleep is awesome!! Really helps set up everything else.
@zichab hope your appointments in Albany go well. Congrats for hitting all your challenges and expeditions!!
Those lunges @Elfirose33 are impressive!! What an active day!

I forgot how much peace and joy I get from walking outside!! Did just about 2.5 miles this morning, some on the road and some on our property. Glad the rain held off. Happy Friday. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

I did not want to say too much about the VA trip because Dennis was SOOOOO negative about it that I assumed it would be rough. However, everything went so well!!!! He needs a CPAP and he was 100% against it because, and I quote him here, "I am NOT shaving my beard for the VA and they don't work anyway!!!" The first thing that disarmed him was the tech who fitted him is about 37 with a beard and β¦ he has to use a CPAP!!! ROTFL!!!!! Dennis was up for listening after that. He fitted him, said he did not have to shave his beard and that if he did not feel better after 5 days to call him!!!! Well, he used it for the first time last night and he was full of energy today like I have not seen in a long time!!!! He said it was the best nights sleep in months!!! His sleep score also jumped way up on his Garmin and being an engineer who loves data, that reinforced to him that it does indeed work!!! π Why are men so resistant to things that will help them????? π
No luck with the iPad though. It is 100% totally DEAD! Even the genius, with all his knowledge, could not fire up a dead iPad. I assumed that it was beyond hope, but again, men need proof.
We went to a favorite place for dinner, ouIr favorite diner for breakfast and our favorite wine store to stock up for summer. It was a beautiful day to drive through the capital region into the mountains of upstate NY. I have learned to appreciate the beauty of spring here and the various colors of green that are all over. Fall is, of course, glorious, but like you @megd44, I forget that spring has it's own peace and joy when you love trees as much as I do!
I am the oldest of 3, but I was raised by an only father, married an only son and had an only son, so I am surrounded by singletons!!! π The other strange thing is that both my husband and son have half siblings who are and were much older than them. Dennis' sister was 17 years older and my step son is 9 years older than my son. Only children are more and more common these days as the economy has made children very expensive to raise.
I'm exhausted, but will be back tomorrow!ππ΄

Thursday was a rest day, and I took another rest day yesterday, but I still did get my 20 lunges done, each leg. I'm looking forward to a brand-new month starting tomorrow! π
@Deeder522 Good job mixing it up and trying out different ideas!
@megd44 Way to go getting your workout done before the weather hit! Thank you:) I've had a good time with those lunges this month π Wonderful! That must've been amazing, so glad for you! Have a good weekend!
@zichab Oh wow, that's all so fantastic about Dennis!! Glad you enjoyed a beautiful springtime drive:) I think singletons are awesome! (I'm a singleton π). I hope you can get some rest.

I walked a mile around the farm last night after dinner. I got slightly sidetracked because the horses were out and in a rather friendly mood. This means that a few of them would take some grass from my hand or accept nose rubs. π€£
Today is the last day in May, and I need about 2 miles to meet my goal. So, it looks like another walk around the farm tonight. This afternoon, I'm hoping to get the dining room and hallway primed for painting.0 -
Did another 2.5 miles, this time down the road to the neighbor's farmstand to buy fresh asparagus for dinner. We are there every other day in season. Love it!!
@zichab I am number 6 of 8. Rarity in today's world and have no idea how my parents, especially my mom, did it. That woman was so amazing. But only half of us have kids. And of those 11, from 4, only 1 has kids. She has two. Big tapering off for sure! Though several of my nieces and nephews are still college kids. So glad Dennis had a good appointment and that the Cpap is working for him.
@Deeder522 those distractions during the walk can be so awesome!! Love horses. And prepping your dining room is huge.
Rest days are so important @Elfirose33!! How is June here already?!?

Today we worked outside all afternoon planting the rest of the flowers we bought weeks ago. Mark bought a few too many so it was a trick to figure out where to plant them all! I also re-potted a spider plant that had outgrown it's pot. All this had been on my To Do list for awhileβfeels good to finally get it all done. I also pulled weeds and planted begonias. This afternoon I walked Dottie 25 minutes. Looking back, May has been a great month! The main highlight for me in May is that I welcomed lunges back into my life and that all went surprisingly well π
@Deeder522 Cool! I'd get sidetracked with horses nearby, too, I just love them! Good job walking, and the last two miles will be a breeze! Well done!
@megd44 Ah, nice! A fresh asparagus stand down the road sounds divine! Yes, May just flew by!

Well, I met all my goals this month as unbelievable as that sound to me! As of yesterday, I have 198.9 miles compared to 195.6 in April! I met all my strength and Garmin Goals as well. May was a good month for me apparently. In fact, this is my best month since I have been on this board and that goes back to 2013! I am humbled for sure. I owe my MDs a raise! π
@Deeder522 Are you taking care of horses in addition to everything else you do? You have not mentioned them before when talking about the farm and I know they need a fair amount of care as my sister raised and trained horses for much of her career. Too much work for me!π You'll reach your goal!
@megd44 There is nothing like asparagus in season is there! We have noticed the steady decrease in children and grandchildren in our family as well. My mother came from a family of 4 and she had 3. My sister and brother each had 2 and I had 1. Families get smaller and smaller it seems except for people who call them selves "homesteaders." They are the only ones I have seen with 4 or more children these days. More power to them for sure.
@Elfirose33 I am in awe of your dedication to your lunges this month. You have not missed a day have you? I am doing planks next month and if I am as dedicated to them as you have been to your lunges, my abs should be made of steel by July! π€£
May has been such a cloudy, rainy month that I feel like I live in London!!! I am hoping June dries up and we get some sun at least, although it seems it might get covered up by smoke from Canadian wildfires!Be careful Michigan peeps as it seems to be coming your way! π·
I'll be back tomorrow with my first plank time-do not expect much! π€£

Mileage Goal met! I had a good 2.25 mile walk at the park tonight.
@zichab Oh goodness, no! The Farm is owned by the neighbors behind us. Mart skims the edge of the fields to form a dirt path, and that's where
and I other neighbors walk. He has 3 draft horses, smaller than the Budweiser horse, but they're big, beautiful boys.

@zichab Outstanding all around!! Thank you! Doing lunges this month was great! I only missed one day, but I got them all caught up a few days later, so in the end I got all the lunges done! That's exciting to add in planks soonβ-I'll be rooting for you! Yes, you're going to have abs of steel! We actually smelled the smoke in the air from the Canadian wildfires last night; I was shocked. They've been talking about that for our area, that the smoke will be coming our way. And it sure is.
@Deeder522 Way to go! You're so lucky to live close to beautiful horses!

Total Miles for May 205.8 compared to 195.6 in April! I am amazed at that. Total steps, 415,688 compared to 394,277 in April! My goal was to focus on strength and I managed to do the BARRE ARMS WORKOUT with 1lb weights all the way through during the month and I increased weight fro 2 to 5 pounds for the Tone Every Zone workout. Obviously that is a strength increase, but I'd like to see a bit more in June. On to June! π

@zichab Wow, and wow again! Incredible report for May! Here's to June! Cheers!
