- What major city do you live in or near? Wasilla, 50 miles north of Anchorage State? Alaska Could you tell us a bit about where you live? City is known for Sarah Palin of which we’re still trying to disassociate with. Light half the year, dark the other half. Tons of wildlife which are much better than the people here. Definitely feeling global warming and climate change with shorter winters, less snow, and warmer summers.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Keep on getting back to “normal” after to major hospital stays in ’23 and ’24. Was luck to get to go on a real vacation this summer instead of to my second home (the hospital)
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I’ve been in Alaska for nineteen years now and I’m used to the changes. My friends and family are still awed by where I live and how I can manage. One of the first questions asked of me when I told everyone I was moving to Alaska was a colleague asking me where I would buy groceries.
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? yardwork, cleaning out all the old foliage and getting ready to winter over and prep for spring. Plenty of exercising with snow shoveling and just trying to walk through the stuff.
- What always cheers you up? my pets (two dogs, Sophie and Cindy, and fourteen cats, Tiger, Tank, Trudy, Linus, Rys, Raven, Magpie, Sebastian, Ciel, Garrett, Balloon, Bubbles, Wallace, and LJ). Watching the young foxes playing and sleeping in the clearing
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? I have my indulgence of the day. It will be something small like a couple M&M’s or strawberry cream cheese and pretzels or a fancy latte or Italian soda. I find that if I don’t deprive myself completely, then I won’t binge or gorge on foods I shouldn’t eat.
- Please share two fun things about you. I have a very good memory and can remember details. I’ll ask Hubby, “Do you remember back when we met…..” and he’ll say no. He likes hearing the good times, but he said what he fears most are the bad and ugly that I remember. I also am a big flamingo fan and have five Featherstore (original) plastic lawn flamingoes in my atrium (along with lots of others in various shapes and forms).

Rys, my polydactyl Siberian Forest Cat. He showed up at my garage door one October night – no collar, no microchip, and no one claimed him. Fine by me!
Ravens in the aspens at the side of the lot. We call them the Magnificent Seven. We assume it’s the same seven that show up every morning. They are some of the ones that stay during the summer (most of them leave).
Magpie near the bird feeders. I assume as well that this is the same guy that talks to me every morning when I go out to put the peanuts at the birdfeeders. We have long conversations.
Eagle, again, a frequent guest. This is near the tree that the ravens stay in. He does nothing but sit for a few hours, then takes off. We believe he’s there (mostly in the winter) sitting in the sun to warm up before he continues his flight. Sometimes he has another adult and a juvenile that has gotten bigger.
Red fox we call Lady. This was taken in June at two in the afternoon. She is about five feet from the side of our garage. She napped for about three hours, then left until I went out at night with Sebastian. None of the foxes bother the cats and vice versa. The foxes are timid around the cats, even hissing and running away from them.
House at midnight. This was taken in April at 12:05am. No altering of the picture was done. From late March until mid August (give or take) the sky never fully goes black. You will hear kids playing outside until the wee hours of the morning.

- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? Pownal, a small town in southern Vermont. Green mountains, winter snow & ski activities, my "forever home".
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Daily walking, plus strength training, spin classes, silver sneakers.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I'm actually looking forward to the fall, a really beautiful season here.

- Please share two fun things about you. I play mandolin in a bluegrass band. Also have a master gardener certification, although I don't feel at all worthy or competent… just have fun messing around in the dirt.
- Is there anything else you would like to share? We just bought a new camper & look forward to going to a big music/camping party in October. I think it's the first week of the fall challenge, will need to think that through a bit.

I am currently off Work with Stress and high BP need to resolve that , think about myself for a little while

I love Autumn in principal however working from makes it feel like ibexes see daylight . I need to change that.

I LIVE IN TEG CAY, SC WHICH IS 4 MILES FROM CHARLOTTE, NC. IT IS A NICE COMMUNITY WITH WALKING TRAILS, SHOPPING, AND 20 MINUTES FROM UPTOWN CHARLOTTE FOR THEATRE AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.
6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season?
I AM WORKING ON MY OVERALL GUT HEALTH. I HAVE CONQUERED MY BLOOD PRESSURE, THYROID AND WEIGHT – GUT ISSUES ARE MY NEXT CHALLENGE.

SEASONAL CHANGES ARE NOT AS BIG OF A PROBLEM AS SCHEDULE CHANGES. I FIND IT HARD TO ADJUST MY HEALTH CHOICES WHEN MY SCHEDULE IS NOT FACTORED INTO MY DAY OR WEEK.

I LOVE THE FALL AND BEING OUTSIDE WALKING AND ENJOYING THE CRISP AIR. I ALSO LOVE GOING TO THE BEACH IN THE FALL. WALKING ON THE BEACH IN COOLER WEATHER IS SO INVIGORATING. I ALSO DURING THE FALL LIKE TO SEARCH FOR NEW EXERCISE VIDEOS.

MY HUSBAND AND GRANDKIDS ALWAYS MAKE ME LAUGH AND FEEL SO HAPPY.

MY FITNESS TIP IS ALWAYS LOOK FOR DIFFERENT WAYS TO KEEP MOVING. IT IS AMAZING HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN BUILD MOVEMENT INTO ANY THING YOU ARE DOING.

- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? My healthy/fitness goals are to continue tracking my nutrition and staying in range, Exercise daily and get in my water.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I hate it when they change the time and it gets dark at 5:30 pm. I love the daylight! We don't get much of a winter here but it did snow this past January and it was so much fun.

- If you were a member during our last challenge, did you achieve a goal? What inspired you to return? I had a decent weight loss in the last challenge (although mostly due to illness). I am a team leader and that inspires me to return for multiple challenges.
- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? I live across the estuary from Oakland, California, in the San Francisco Bay area. My hometown of Alameda is technically an island in San Francisco Bay, although in many places you can throw a rock and hit Oakland.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Get generally more healthy - I'm coming off my first COVID infection and it's been tough. Trying to get back to at least 150 minutes of fitness activities per week.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. Fall is actually the hottest time of the year in my area. By the end of the challenge the weather will cool down though and more typical fall weather happens.
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? The winter resident birds arrive so it's nice to watch them appear. There are many gardening tasks in the fall so that takes up much of my exercise time.
- What always cheers you up? Petting one of my cats.

- If you were a member during our last challenge, did you achieve a goal? NO What inspired you to return? I join the 5% challenges to keep myself accountable. I log in daily to log my steps and my LTGL. I also make sure to track my food. It helps me to watch what I eat and what I drink .
- What major city do you live in or near?Virginia Beach State? Virginia Could you tell us a bit about where you live? There are a lot of hiking trails. We have 3 parks in our neighborhood. They are good size and maintained by the city.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I am still trying to lose weight. I am also still working on decreasing stress though since my job has changed and my hours have decreased, that has gone down a lot.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? I don’t mind Spring, Summer, and Fall. I am not a fan of winter. I hate the cold. I do prefer longer days so that I may go out for walks and it is light out in the evening.

- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Primarily, gain muscle and shift fat.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I prefer the fall to be fair; the summer is just too hot to !
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? Cycling mainly, and when it's too wet, I use the indoor rower and do weights. I do set up rollers in my greenhouse for my handcyle, once the toms are out of the way.

- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? We live on the Oregon Coast in Florence, we are about 10 minutes from the Pacific Ocean. We are an hour out of Eugene and 3 hours from Portland.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Get in more exercise and stay lower in calories
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. The only thing that bugs me is the time change. I think it is unnecessary, whether we change the time or not the earth moves around the sun the same .

- Please share two fun things about you. I love people therefore always happy and positive when with others. I have a tendency to laugh at upsetting situations which aggravates people but when I get scared or see something terrible my body responds with laughter. I really try to work on controlling myself when these situations arise.

- If you were a member during our last challenge, did you achieve a goal? I came close to reaching my 5% weight loss. I did lose 6.5 lbs and a total of 8 inches so it was a victory to me. What inspired you to return? I love the team and the team members. It is a very caring and supportive team. It just makes me want to keep coming back and get the rest of my weight off.
- What major city do you live in or near? Memphis, TN. I live about 35 miles north of Memphis. When we first moved here it was such a small and great place to be. It has grown so much and the town is full of restaurants and shops. Of course, when a town gets bigger there is always the chance that crime happens more often. If we were younger we would move. We have 3 of our children that live here and most of our grandkids and great grandkids live here. Our oldest lives in MD and she really wants to move here.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I want to keep losing weight and keep doing my exercises to reach my final goal. I will remain on the pre-diabetic diet and do my 120 minutes of exercise every day.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. We live in TN but I swear we are still in FL. I don't like the time change. We should stay on one and not do this back and forth stuff. I don't like it when it is dark by 5:30 or 6 in the evenings. I go to sleep earlier. The temps here are hot and muggy and we don't see much change in the seasons. I'd rather be in the mountains.
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? I love to go on walks in the Fall especially if we have a Fall season. We usually don't get much of Fall and go straight to Winter and we don't get much of that either.
- What always cheers you up? My grandkids and my great grandkids. We have 12 grands and 3 great grands. It can get very noisy around here.
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? When you find what works best for you, keep doing it and Never Give Up.
- Please share two fun things about you. I have a crazy sense of humor and I love to play computer games.
- Is there anything else you would like to share? I am 73 years old and I have been in remission for 10 and 1/2 years. i had breast cancer. I thank God for the time he has allowed me to stay here and be with my family. I am also a caregiver for my husband Steve. He was injured badly on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier when he was 27. All of his broken bones and other injuries have gotten worse over the years. He will be 74 in December. I will care for him for as long as I am able.

- If you were a member during our last challenge, did you achieve a goal? What inspired you to return? I was a member last challenge but due to my husband's health challenges I was not successful. I need to get focused so I am returning.
- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? We moved to Gainesville Florida 9/14 and we are still learning our way around. We moved to be close to the best teaching hospital in the state…plus one of our daughters has worked for the hospital for 25 years. Gainesville is a college town with more than 100,000 students that pour in each fall and leave in the spring. Sports are big here…so need to stay away from the sports venues when the games are being played…big traffic jams.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I want to get refocused on a daily rhythm of exercise and healthy eating using an 18/6 IF eating pattern. This rhythm has been missing for 7 weeks now and I need to get it back into my life.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. Fall brings shorter days…maybe better for longer sleep. Cooler days will make it better to get outside each day. It rarely gets very cold here in Gainesville, FL…but it does get cooler, especially in the mornings.
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? Walking outside. Also, I have ordered some raised beds for my new home. I plan to use up a lot of the moving boxes to fill the raised beds…maybe half way…saves money and trash. There are also some trees to be trimmed in the back yard so I plan to use some of the smaller branches and the leaves that have started falling to help fill the beds at no additional cost. I have never done this before so I will be learning as I go. The first planting will likely not happen until early spring.
- What always cheers you up? Seeing my grandkids, meeting new people, getting my nails done, inspiring stories of strength and courage.
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? - Consistency and rhythm. The less I have to think or worry about deciding what to do, what to eat - the better things go. Schedule exercise, have a cycle of meal plans. One Protein and 2 different Freggies (heavy towards Veggies) at each meal.
- Please share two fun things about you. I love to read…fiction and non-fiction. My office in my new house has a whole wall of windows with a view of large oak trees filled with moss and lots of green plants…it is like being outside even when I am working.
- Is there anything else you would like to share? The 5% Challenge helps keep me focused so that I make some time to take care of me and my health…so that I can care for my husband and others around me.

- If you were a member during our last challenge, did you achieve a goal? What inspired you to return? I was not a member of the last challenge. It has been quite a while. I am coming back for accountability. I have gained a fair amount of weight in the last few months, and I'm going to put that in reverse.
- What major city do you live in or near? Oklahoma City State? Oklahoma Could you tell us a bit about where you live? I've lived here about 3 years now, and I'm still exploring like a tourist. There is a lot to do within a reasonably short drive.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I want to get the weight I've gained back off. I was incredibly consistent with diet and exercise for a year, and then I've really fallen off for the last 3 or 4 months. The scale has reflected that.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I absolutely love this time of year. September through December is my favorite time of year. I get seasonal depression in January.
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? I love to walk outside when it's cooler. I take zumba and Barre classes at the gym. I work out with a trainer once per week.
- What always cheers you up? Being on or around water. I try to take a cruise at least twice per year.
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Consistency is key. Maintaining is harder than losing in the first place.
- Please share two fun things about you. I graduated with my Bachelors degree at 19. I won the daily "American Idol" competition at Hollywood Studios in Florida several years ago.

- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? I live in a little town called Ephrata, PA aka Amish Country. The closest major city that I am sure most people have heard of is Harrisburg, PA (PA's state capital) and also near Hershey, PA.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I am trying to lose weight that I gained back after an accident last year around this time that left me not able to exercise for months and I just want to feel good in my body again.
- How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I get depressed a bit right around January of every year and I hate it. I think it's because I am not a fan of cold weather and hate the getting dark so early in the day and by January, I am just so over it!
- What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? My favorite fall activities are going hiking with my dogs and friends and see all the leaves changing color this time of year. I also love riding my horses this time of year because the weather is usually cool and very pleasant for me and the horses :)
- What always cheers you up? Going out the to farm where I board my horses

- Please share two fun things about you. I have 2 cats, 3 dogs, 2 guinea pigs and 2 horses…needless to say I am an animal lover 😂 I am also a Navy Veteran, a wife and a mom of 3 wonderful boys (2 of whom also served in the military).
- Is there anything else you would like to share? I am very competitive and I find that is what motivates me most to do something such as exercising when I really am not feeling it. If I know others are depending on my participation, I don't like to disappoint :)

If you were a member during our last challenge, did you achieve a goal? What inspired you to return? My goal is maintenance, so yes I did achieve my goal I stay with the 5% challenge for accountability and support. Reporting a weekly weigh-in the best way to stay on track!
What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? I'm in NH. I don't think we have major cities … about 1-1/2 hour drive from Boston (where I almost never go)
What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Maintain in my goal range, and improve my fitness, especially flexibility
How do the seasonal changes affect you? Time change, shorter daylight hours, temperature, etc. I'm not a fan of the longer nights and shorter days, but I'm from NH where the shortest amount of daylight is 9 hours, and 15 hours of darkness. The change from Daylight Savings back to Standard time doesn't bother me, but it's a nuisance. I'm not a great fan of the cold winter temps, but I'll bundle up and still get outdoors as much as possible.
What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises? Because the daylight is shrinking and temps are falling, I tend to do more indoor exercising. Walking outdoors is a year round favorite exercise, as long as the road conditions are safe for walking. I'll still be riding my bicycle in October, but probably not into November.
What always cheers you up? A hot mug of tea, a good book, and my cat in my lap.
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? There's no perfect formula, and even when you find your "ideal" plan, life will blind-side you and force a change. Be prepared to adapt, adapt, adapt!

Is there anything else you would like to share? October is a busy month for me. We're going to the Freeport Fall Festival (Oct 3-5), going to "Night at the Museum" Oct 11, heading to Cape Cod for a vacation Oct 12-16 (Rich's birthday is also that week), doing "Fright Night Light" at Haunted Overload on the 16th, going to the York Festival on the 18th, going to the Witches Fair on the 19th along with a corn maze on that same day, and back to Haunted Overload on the 26th for a daylight haunt.2 -

What inspired you to return?……Didn't reach weight goal but did HH even though not recommended amount. 8 glasses water but my goal was 5 which was a true challenge for me. I returned cause some days the daily steps was all I was able to accomplish.
5. What major city do you live near? State? Could you tell us about were to live?….. Hour drive to Akron one direction, about 1 1/2 hrs from Cleveland in other. Kent State University'University's chimneys can be seen from my house just outside city limits.
6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season?….To return to healthy habits I was doing a year ago.
7. How do the seasonal changes affect you?… Am in room for day by dark tired. Think due to shorter daylight so trying to get as much work done possible during daylight.
8. What are your favorite Fall activities and exercises?….. Walking, I guess, since cooler. However, now walking is done only in driveway, unless with Senior group.
9. What always cheers you up?….Seeing my grandkids. Always hearing a child's laughter!
10. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share?…. I'm a strong believer in organics and using food ( teas and herbs) for health. Was really low a wee bit back so didn't follow that very well. Body is finally showing it needs to get effects out of me.
11. Please, share two fun things about you?… Love playing with games with grandkids. Sisters of my heart tell me I have a spontaneous sense of humor.
12. Is there anyone else you would like to share?……Most you know I care for my 92 yr old stepdad since Mommy passed away. It really consumes my time due to health issues. Last December, my son and girlfriend came to live in the family room (nice size due to orginal garage converted) due to leaving NC night before Hurricane Helen hit Black Mountain. Whatever fit in car while she held cat was all they had. No jobs. It has been trying times, believe me! I do pray…..sometimes a lot!
