Short Term Goals-Long Term Goals

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to ask you all about short term and long term goals.
My short-ish term goals include:
My first half marathons (both in February), and first marathon (hopefully) in September 2012.
So far, my goals have all included just running longer distances. I'm pretty new to running, so I have a lot of distance to work up to.
I've met a LOT of people who run a half, or a full, then they don't ever run again. I don't want to be that person to check it off the bucket list and call it quits.
So for those of you who are experienced runners, and have completed all of the "distances"...
What keeps you motivated?

I haven't run a single race but I've worked up to 12 miles on my own. My short term goal is to run 100 miles this month, simply because I joined a challenge. My ultimate goal is to run a marathon and I'm hoping to do the OC Marathon in May 2012. Because I've never run an official race I want to get maybe a 5k in next month, then a half sometime in Feb or March 2012, so I'll have a little feel for it by marathon time.0

My short term goal is to run a half marathon in the next year then work myself up to a full marathon. I am honestly just happy running! I was the girl that had never even run a mile in her life until I finally was encouraged to give running a try 2 years ago! I now run with my dad and we have done several 5ks together0

Short term: run my 5k on Saturday in under 40 minutes (that's slow to a lot of you, I'm sure, but I've only been running for 2 months tomorrow!)
Long-ish term: I want to go for a half marathon next summer. I just need to make sure my knees can handle it.0 -

I don't have any really short term goals as race season is slowing down and I am letting my foot heal, but long term goal do 2 more half marathons and one full one in 2012.0

Short term: Build my base from mid-20's per week to 36-40/week by late January when I start my next marathon cycle. Stay injury free.
Long term: Continue building for marathons and some shorter races a few times per year and in my base building periods build up to 50-60 miles per week over the next year or so.
Longer term: Start training for/doing Ultra-marathons if I can hold up and stay reasonably injury free at the higher mileage base.0 -
Oh and I agree completely about races. Even if you're not out to race them, they are fun and generally re-affirm why you run.0

Short term goals - continue to build my mileage 30-40 miles a week
Long term goals - sub 18 minute 5k.0 -
Short term: PR 5k
Long term: Break 2:00 for a half marathon, current best is 2:19, but I wasn't even really working that race, I was hanging back with a friend for encouragement. I think if I had actually raced it, I would have easily gotten under 2:10.0 -
Short term goal... 5ks and 10ks (really to PR in both)
Long term goal... half marathon (really just to finish)0 -
Short term-just get in 85 more miles to hit 1,000 for 2011.
Longer term-stay injury free, run my next marathon under 3:40, see just how fast i can run a half, and break 20 for a 5K.0 -
Short term... lose these last stinking 4 pounds (almost 5) and keep up my current conditioning so I can train like a madwoman for a half in April and a 25k in May... not to mention my first marathon next fall.
Long term.... continue to push myself in speed and distance and remain an athlete until I'm too old to remember why I started running in the first place!!!!! Oh, and to live my next 40 years as a happy, active, athletic woman!!!!0 -
Short term - Finish my 12 races in 2011 with PRs in my last two (8K and 10mile)
Medium term - Run two more 1/2 Marathons and one 30K in 2012, aiming to run my second 1/2 Marathon well under 2:05
Long term - Train hard to run a 1/2 M in under 2hours and consider running a full, barring any recurring injuries.
I am considering re-focusing on strength training and spinning, so running may take a back seat for a little while, but these are my broad, over-riding goals  I'm sure I can do it!0 -

Yep! I will never ever ever win one, but I had fun doing my first one, which is why I'm doing my second tomorrow!0 -
My short term goal is to run 3 miles in under 30 minutes. As of now, my PB is 30:11! I'd also like to run a 10K. I'm running my first ever half in April. I just want to finish, injury free!
Long term goals, hmm...I really do not aspire to run a marathon. I'm not sure why, I just don't. But I want to be that lady in the neighborhood that runs all the time! I'm getting that rep now, just want to keep it!0 -
Short term goals - build speed (I so wanna be faster esp on my long runs!!) and build weekly mileage
long term - Full marathon (can't believe I am actually really saying that)0 -
Short term goal: To be able to run a 10 minute mile over longer distances - `i always start fast and then slow right down after about 5 miles.
Long term goal: To run a marathon (don't know when yet!)0 -
Short Term Goal:
Stanwick Lakes Santa Run (Half Marathon, 18th December) - I'ld like to beat my PB of 1:45:30 for a half marathon - but that was on a very flat course and I don't know how hilly this one is!
Mid Term Goals:
Bright Marathon, 15th April 2012 (My first ever)
MK Marathin, 29th April 2012 (yes, thats right, two weeks later... I figured if I can do one I can do two...)
Long Term Goals:
Sprint Triathlon
Full Triathlon0 -

Short Term Goals:
Finish my first half marathon next week in 2:30
Long term goals:
Full marathon (April 2012!) injury free
Sub 30 minute 5K (current PR 30:48)0 -
my short term goal is to break a 30 min 5k- i've got 2 weeks left to drop a minute off the run to get there.
mid term goals are a half marathon on 26th feb, and a full (my 1st) on 28th april. i just want to get through my training properly without flagging in the middle of it. i may also do another marathon on 16th june.
long term goals are just to keep finding the motivation to keep on running. i'd like to get fitter and faster. i want to run my half in less than 2hrs 44 (my pb for a 1/2 so far). i really want to improve my pace so i'm in the middle of the pack, not at the end of it!0 -
Short term goals....
1. Run a half marathon (short meaning... the next six months)
Long term goal....
1. Build speed so I don't feel like a snail
2. Run a full marathon
3. Keep running0 -
1. My first 5K on December 4th (hopefully under 25 mins)
2. A duathalon (bike/run) prior to April first
3. Triathalon in Folsom on April first, which is also my birthday!
In meantime...run 5 miles. Have worked up to 4 so far!0
