YES THERE IS ONE COMMERCIAL IN THE MIDDLE OF IT BUT IT IS WORTH THE TIME SPENT. ONCE THE AWARENESS HAS PLANTED IT'S SEED WE CAN BEGIN TO ASSESS OUR CHOICES AND MAKE BETTER ONES FOR US AND THOSE AROUND US. THIS IS BIGGER THAN OUR WAISTLINES AND IT'S UP TO US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF YOU WATCH IT, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR FEEDBACK ON IT IN THIS GROUP.
I WAS ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THE ORGANIC SCHOOL PROJECT. I FELT ANGER AT THE YOUNG GIRL AND HER FAMILY IN THE FIRST PART BUT QUICKLY REALIZED WE ARE PRODUCT OF OUR ENVIRONMENTS. IT'S A CYCLE AND I WAS 430 AT 17. THE WOMAN WHO HAD GASTRIC BYPASS HAD A STORY VERY SIMILAR TO MINE. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMUNITY ACTION INVOLVED IN OUR CHOICES. FOOD COST, AVAILABILITY AND PREPARATION ALL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE AND THE FIRST STEP TO A BETTER LIFE IS THE INFORMATION WE ARE EXPOSED TO. THIS DOCUMENTARY TAKES ON MORE THAN JUST LIFESTYLE CHOICES AS FACTORS IN THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC. IT BRINGS TO LIGHT THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF THE LOW COST OF CALORIE DENSE & NUTRITION VOID FOOD AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE YOU GO AT VERY LOW COST. THE FAMILIES THAT WORK HARD AND CAN'T AFFORD TO EAT ORGANIC, LOCAL, UNPROCESSED ARE THE ONES MOST AT RISK FOR OBESITY BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD THE FOODS. THIS RETRO-ACTIVE STANCE ON HEALTHCARE (PUTTING OUR HEALTH BASICS LIKE, EXERCISE P.E. IN SCHOOLS, EATING HEALTHY BALANCED REAL FOOD ON THE BACK BURNER) IS THE REASON WE STRUGGLE AND HAVE NOW BEEN PRESENTED THE STARTLING REALITY OF "THE FIRST GENERATION THAT WILL HAVE A SHORTER LIFESPAN THAN THEIR PARENTS" SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE AND WE HAVE TO TAKE THIS HEAD ON. AS ADULTS WE HAVE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR CHOICES AND FINANCES PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THE QUALITY OF WHAT WE EAT, BUT CHILDREN DO NOT. WE OWE IT TO OUR KIDS TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE AT A BETTER LIFE. THESE ARE MY PERSONAL FEELINGS AND I DON'T MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE SO PLEASE KNOW THAT I ONLY WANT A BETTER FUTURE FOR THE NEXT GENERATIONS AND THE ONLY WAY WE CAN DIG OURSELVES OUT IS TO TAKE A LOOK AROUND US AND MAKE THE NEXT STEP.
I THINK THIS MAY QUALIFY AS A RANT. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS MEANS I'M ON A SOAPBOX. I JUST CARE PASSIONATELY ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND ME AND I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ANYWAY I CAN. THIS DOCUMENTARY SHARED A LOT OF MY VIEWPOINTS AND I THOUGHT SHARING IT COULD BE HELPFUL.

I agree 100%. It's far too expensive to buy healthy food. We live paycheck to paycheck and I have to sometimes buy the unhealthy version of something solely based on cost. I will say this, though...the cost of healthy food seems to be getting lower. Hopefully that means more people are becoming aware of what they're eating.
