I start an "official" training program tomorrow!

I'm a little nervous, as it starts out with me running 6 days this week. I usually only do 3 and spin a few. Hoping I learn to enjoy running in the snow, as I'm sure it will be starting soon too. Eeeek, I'm so excited! I never thought I'd be a runner, but I can't explain to non-runners why I enjoy it without people thinking I'm crazy, as I'm sure you all know.

What program are you doing that has you running 6 days a week??? That seems like a whole lot. I do 3 maybe 4 depending on how I feel Sunday after my long run. A lot of research says you can train with only 3 running days: interval training, a tempo run and a long run.

What are you training for ? Good luck! Running is so rewarding and humbling at the same time.

6 days may be a little aggressive to start out with! How many miles/minutes are you doing a day? I'm on Hal Higdon's training plan right now and it has me running 5 days and I sometimes scale it back to 4 and use one as a cross training day. Definitely listen to your body and remember that these training programs are just a guide!

What are you training for? Running is so rewarding and racing is addictive. Good luck to you! :)

6 is a bit much, I'd think. Is it a live program, or something you downloaded? Jumping right into 6 days could potentially spell injury...

I'm in a local 21 week training program for a 10 miler and we have a "training log" where we have to write down everything even remotely exercise/stretching related each day (so that if we get injured or have a question, we can bring that to our coach and he can try to pinpoint what happened), along with our water intake, how we're feeling in general, stuff like that. The specific sub-program I'm in has us running 3 days a week along with our group run on Saturday morning. We're supposed to do yoga or pilates on our rest days, but I've been a bit lazy about that :embarassed:

This is written by a trainer. He has me doing intervals some of those days, so the distance isn't always long. I did 5 miles yesterday and today was a "recovery" run. I had never done one of those before, where he had me running to keep my heart rate in a specific zone. I have to say, I feel amazing right now. I started the run today with a sore hip, so I was nervous about how I'd feel.
If 6 days ends up to be too much, we'll scale it back.

I'm officially training for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon, but I'll be running some 5 and 10Ks between now and then since it's not until May.

I think I am going to do this half, too. I just need register for it! I did 5 days a week running for my last half marathon and even then I found that to be too much. I scaled it down to 4 days a week with 1 day of cross training plus lifting weights still.
