Introducing myself and a bf question

Hi there!

I'm a mom to two little monkeys - a 3 1/2 year old daughter and a 10 month old son. I have lost most of my baby weight except for those last five pounds which seem quite committed to staying around. Plus, I am a much squishier and droopier version of me. I have 7 weeks until I return to work and I haven't gotten up the nerve to try on those dress pants! Anyone else out there is similar straits?

I do have a question though. Does anyone know how many calories breasteding is supposed to burn at this stage? I know they say 500, but I don't know if that applies just to babies who are exclusively breastfed. Also, is there a way to factor in breastfeeding into your fitness profile?

  • When tracking your food, go to add a food and put in breastfeeding. I think they have an option for partial or breast and bottle feeding. I'm exclusive right now and they had 500 calories for that. But what it will do is show a negative amount of calories. So if originally you were suppose to eat 1600 calories, it will still show you need 1600 calories, but it will show you have a defecit in your calories at the start of the day. I hope that helps and good luck!

I am returning to work in February, and too I am unsure if my "squishier" body will fit into my work clothes!! I am two pounds away from pre-preg - but the shape / texture is different...I am hoping I can keep losing so that I'll be justified in buying all new clothes when I go back :)

As for bfeeding - I am nursing an almost 9 month old, so I choose the "nursing 6-12 month old" option in my food diary - it subtracts 300 calories (and also takes into account carbs, fats, and protein). I also felt that MFP was giving me too low of a value (1200 cals) so I added a couple of hundred. I have been at it for two months, and I've been losing without compromising my milk supply.

    Welcome and good luck!!!!
  • Thanks! I knew there had to be a way to account for feeding the little dude!

It seems so cruel to only have a few weeks left to get into those work clothes with the holiday season beginning!

Hi! I have a 3 year old (Today!) & a babe that will be 1 on December 11th. I have to go back to work on Jan 17th and am SO afriad of it. There's no cash for a new wardrobe, my "pre-any babies" clothes are small & not so in style where my "in between babies" clothes are too big! Everything on my body just seems to be totally shaped different & not in a good way.

I am in the process of weaning, with my last feed being at my little one's birthday breakfest & I am wondering if the 300 cals is too high now that he is only nursing 3 times a day. He has atleast a half hour feed in the morning, but the other two feeds are lucky if they reach a total of 15 minutes combined. I am contemplating whether at this stage I should just drop it from my diary.
