help with a cat issue?

Okay, I wasn't aware this could happen so early, but it appears that our new female kitten is in heat! We got her at a pet store, not my idea, I prefer no kill shelters, but I was overruled two to one.
She was barely 4 months old and we've had her for a month. I know in the past, my parents always got our cats spayed or neutered at 6 months, and it appears that Ginger is in heat!
Our male cat, (Fishy), is neutered but has been attempting to mount her all day. He can't seem to figure out what to do though, and runs away with Ginger chasing after him and presenting her bum to him.
I'm gonna call a vet tommorow and see about getting her in to get spayed ASAP. Meantime, she's crying, meowing, following Fishy, and trying to get his attention.
Should I seperate them? Maybe put her into a different room? Would that make her cry louder? Or if he figured out what to do, would that offer some relief to her?
Not really sure how to handle this, since I am used to adopting from shelters, where they are already fixed and have most of their shots.
Any info would be apperciated!

Getting her speyed quickly is a good idea. I would separate them if you can, she may not stop the behaviour (as she may react to smells of him around her anyway) but it should reduce the intensity with him not in her immediate presence.
Good luck, let us know how how it goes when you talk to the vet!0 -
My kitty, is a 14 year old one. I took her to the vet last week for her annual vaccination. We only did the one (Feline Panleukopenia) but she seems sooo tired since then. She sleeps almost 12 hours continuously, without eating or drinking water, she sneezes a lot, and yesterday she puke 3 times all the food she ate!!!!
Vet says it's normal in her age to have such a reaction to vaccines, but I'm wondering, if I should stop vaccination to such an old cat.
Before that she is just a healthy cat!0 -

This. My cat is in heat right now and we try to keep away from everyone else - especially our female Maltese mix who she has been trying to "hump" for the past week.0
