The new skyrim patch from 11/30 causes more problems than it fixes for a very large amount of people. Avoid downloading it.

Ok, just spoke with my husband, DON'T DO IT! Agreed!0

See i downloaded it for the ps3 and now it runs perfectly. Before i could only play for about 15 minutes before it would lag or crash. Now i can play for 3 hours with no issue.0

What platform?
Because as far as I know, I have yet to download a patch, but reports say that a PC patch was released pre-Thanksgiving. Then again, I hadn't seen it or any patch notes yet ... so I'm wondering if it's auto-patched or whatever for PCs.0 -
I am having no problems with my Xbox, here and there a lag but nothing to freak out about.0

This patch was supposed to fix lag or something? I wasnt having any problems and I updated and everythings what i can tell the same, sucks that it made things WORSE for the people who were waiting.0

Sorry, I was talking about the PC version, I tend to forget that people own consoles
There have been lots of problems with it, such as Dragons flying backwards, then dying for no reason.
But mainly, a lot of people are having a serious problem of not being able to start their game at all, and some of the keys no longer working.
@caveats: I am not talking about the pre-thanksgiving patch, I am talking about patch 1.2, which was released November 30th... the release notes for the patch are here...

Steam auto-patched me. I haven't had any problems, but have also played the game less than 10 hours total, only 2 post patch.0

Ah ha! So that's where the patch notes are -- thanks! So how do you avoid downloading a patch then, if Steam auto-patches, as another poster said?
Sorry, I am a Steam n00b ... I resisted signing up for an account because I knew I'd start gaming too much again and spending too much money on games, but I couldn't resist Skyrim ... and Skyrim forced me to sign up for Steam. But I resisted the Thanksgiving sale on "Rift" and a bunch of other games, so ... victory for me!! (Now to avoid downloading the entire Sims library to "catch up" ...)
The only issue I've noticed on my PC is the dragon not attacking ... I chased one for like 30 minutes throwing ice spikes at it, trying to get it to attack me (and it was flying low to the ground, too, at certain points) ... finally gave up and moved along on my merry way. Nice to know I wasn't a total nub for not being able to get its attention, lol.0 -
Steam in the best thing that could happen to gamers!0

The way to avoid steam auto-patching is to run the game directly without using steam. You can do this by going to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim
And running either SkyrimLauncher.exe or TESV.exe, I just created a shortcut to TESV on my desktop so I could run it from there.
Of course, if you do this, you will not get any of the achievements from steam, and it won't keep track of how many hours you have played either.0
