What are you watching in your food intake?

Just out of curiosity.... what are you watching? Carbs? Sugar? Fat? Sodium? Just calories? I see so many people watching different things and different things work for different people. I know that low carbs is a big deal for a lot of people, but I just don't get it. I mean there are 21 g of carbs in 1 c of orange sections... ORANGE SECTIONS!!!! I thought with everything that has carbs I must be blowing it out of the water and come to find out, I'm not, but I don't try and count them either. I guess I just focus on calories and sodium. What do you focus on?

Maybe I'm just odd. I just commented on a post that someone said they felt like crap after eating a Bacon Ranch salad with grilled chicken from McDonalds and I was the only one who mentioned the hellatious amount of sodium in it that probably is making her feel horrible. Nobody else seems to note that. Am I just weird????0 -
No, its not fair that fruit has so many carbs geez we are suppose to have like 5 servings a day, "forget abou it". I mainly care about calories, sodium, and water intake0

Oh and i never understood effects of sodium until now. I def keep it in mind, its kinda hard to go OVER i think cause they set it so high, and im not sure if i should lessen it, i know we NEED it in our diet but i wonder how much.?0 -

I think the average is around 1200mg a day... if I go over that I go water crazy lol. But the thing with the salad is that was how much was in JUST THAT! If you look closely at stuff, you'll see that its in EVERYTHING! I mean syrup? That is the one that blew my mind. Its even in milk! Those aren't seriously dramatic things though like cheap hotdogs (oh how I know lol), bologna, check your chicken... most of them are injected with salt water, high cheese pastas.... all the nummy stuff lol oh, even soda... People look at DIET soda and think ZERO CAL ZERO SUGAR.... correct, but check the sodium.
YES, we do have to have it in our diets..... here is what I found.... "Health experts recommend 1,100 - 3,300 mg of sodium per day for healthy adults. Most people eat 2,300 to 6,900 mg per day. This is too much sodium" http://urbanext.illinois.edu/thriftyliving/tl-salt.html So, I guess I am right on for what I try to keep it at. OH! Even chili powder girl. Boy oh boy was that a shock to me. If you aren't buying the high grade stuff..... you've got sodium.0 -

geez, another reason to buy less food but better quality, which is so hard to spend so much on this onw when this one is so much cheaper lol0 -
Yeah, I am really only concerned about calories, sodium, & water. I find that when those 3 are in check, everything else is pretty good as well..0

I heard from a nutritionist on Rachael Ray that you should only at 15 grams of sugar a day or less.
I also heard from Jillian Michaels that you should only have 1500 grams of sodium a day of less.
These are the only two things that I really watch. Besides calories of course0 -
I normally watch calories and sugar...sodium has never been a huge problem for me, but it's the sugar that causes me problems!! It seems like I am always over on that! And the days that I can keep it super low are the days that I will lose the most weight....everyone's body is different for sure:)0
