Ok, so I've noticed several people looking to start WoW. As many ex-WoW players can contest, WoW is VERY addicting. Some say "nah, I won't get addicted" but honestly, it's virtual cocaine.
I have 279 days /played on my hunter alone. I haven't checked how many hours on my Shaman and Druid.

Well, here I show you how addicting this game is.
On my old server where I still have a couple of bank alts and which I frequent from time to time to say hello to old friends, there is this lady who has been playing for years. She is well known on the server and known for engagin in some serious "roleplay". Well, she posted all her characters in a list. I share with you her characters:

"At someone's request, a list of all (or most) of my characters across realms. I might just try to keep this edited and updated. Yes, I could make new ones to hide - but that's pretty rare. My most secret ones have been protecting friends.

* before the level means they are either a bank alt or a DK used to level in the starter zone for 30-40g I send to the others, then delete and repeat.

"Bear in mind the totals here do not include deleted characters ... and I have deleted a lot, the highest being my original 37 hunter on Crushridge and a level 20 human mage that Pip replaced.

Blue = 181d 19h 9m
Sentinels only = 476d 39h 41m
All existing on two active accounts = 508d 16h 17m

Divide by about 5 years playing, that's around 6-7 hours a day. (BUT I do leave myself logged in while doing stuff around the house, especially on weekends, so there's no accounting for how much of that was afk.)"

She has played for 508d 16h 17 m total. HOLY *kitten*!!!

So, if you are thinking about playing WoW, be warned! :)

This just goes to show there extremes in everything. I think it was easier to get addicted earlier in the lifecycle of WoW. Think about it, if you wanted to see endgame content you had to raid; and the only kind of raiding that existed was serious/hardcore raiding because that is how hard the bosses were. Serious/Hardcore raiding took dedication for multiple days/nights a week. Why not play a game if you aren't going to see the end content, right?

But now with the LFR tool (which many old school gamers are hating on) even a casual gamer can work to see endgame content without committing to raiding 4-5 nights a week. Because remember, if I was goign to be raiding I would have to find time to run dungeons outside of raid times to point or badge cap, farm for mats, or work to train myself and others.

I guess in a long way I am trying to say that it used to be the only way to play wow successfully was to be hardcore, and that just isn't true anymore, thankfully.

I was addicted to wow just for the leveling. I would level up to cap, then start over. I didn't like raiding or end game content at all. I enjoyed filling that exp bar (and eventually, the reputation bars, too!)

then they introduced achievements and it was just something else I could max out

Did they expand the character slots per server? I recall there being 10 per realm but you listed a bunchload under Sentinels

Any game is going to become addicting if you get really into it.
I play Guild Wars and I have 3,900 hours logged on there (though that's only 162 days or so..) but in hours it makes it look like I have no life, haha. :)

I think she has deleted several characters to make room for more but overall, she has played all those characters!

That's crazy. She's going to love it then when Blizz increases the character limit cap.
