Renting out a hospital floor?

Beyonce is apparently in the hospital giving birth/just gave birth and the article states that her and JayZ have
"She and her husband, Jay-Z, are said to have rented out fourth floor for $1.3 million. ABC News reports that she checked in Friday night."
What do you think about renting out a whole floor for privacy reasons? (She also checked in under a fake name, which the article released.)

What would they do with the other patients? Turn them away?
Personally, I cannot phantom the idea of a hospital turning patients away because of this cause. It's ridiculous! I could care less about what these people do and I hate that the media focuses so much attention on these celebrities instead of real pressing issues but I thought I'd post to see what other people thought about renting out a whole hospital floor.

I guess if you have enough money, anything is for sale. Hospitals now a days are all about the bottom line - but I would think they wouldn't compromise patient welfare. I can understand her wanting privacy, but then again it shouldn't come at the expense of other patients.0

Lenox Hill Hospital appears to be a private business. If you got the money they got the time...0

Like I have tried to tell those around me: "The sooner you learn that the rules are different for different people, the better off you'll be."0

It's a private hospital, so I see no issue with it. I can understand why JayZ and Beyonce would want that kind of privacy and security.0

Yep, that's about it.0 -
What's the alternative - a bunch of new laws regulating how a private firm can do business? Lenox Hill Hospital is a business, it doesn't belong to the sity/county/state/fed... I'd guess it belongs to a group of stockholders. Corporations can be profoundly amoral, so it you got the money they got the time.
I didn't see anything in the article about poor girls giving birth in alleys 'cause Beyonce Knowles had shut down the hospital. Pretty sure there were still places to go. How many floors does that hospital have anyways?0 -
Another article I read said that a man with preemie twins in the NICU and his family weren't allowed to see the twins because of Beyonce. I think if she wanted something that private, she has money enough to pay some nurses and doctors to have a home birth.0

From MSN:
"WENN, Monday, January 9, 2012, 4:11am (PST)
A father from New York is demanding an apology from Beyonce and Jay-Z after their security guards allegedly refused him access to a neonatal intensive care unit to see his newborn twins.
The superstar singer was admitted to a ward at Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital over the weekend, and she gave birth to a daughter, named Blue Ivy Carter, on Saturday night.
Neil Coulon, from Brooklyn, New York, was also at the hospital after his wife gave birth to premature twins, and he claims the celebrity couple's bodyguards caused chaos by keeping new parents and their relatives out of the wards and the waiting rooms."0 -

I don't have a problem with them paying for the whole floor and expecting no new patients to come in. I don't think that should extend to patients and their families already in care. Sometimes too, you hear these stories and it's the bodyguards and the entourage that take things too far and the celebrities themselves have no idea that someone else got walked on in their name.0

Depends. As long as they gave enough advanced notice and didn't screw over any other patients at the hospital, I say milk their primadona butts for as much as they are willing to shell out for their special moment. Private hospitals are profit institutions...so I say let them make the profit.
As far as the couple making the decision to do this, whatever, it's there money. I can speculate what I would do if I had their money, but in the end, I don't, so who knows. But when I see celebrities pissing away money like this, yeah, it irks me a little that they just spend it like water, but at least it's water I get a chance to drink from. Rich people who spend like this are a lot more of a boon to the economy than some old miser who sit's on their horde of gold like some mythological dragon.0 -

I'd like to have seen them try that with me.
Always remember people body guards, mall/college security, etc. have no different rights than any other civilian. They are not police, they are not military. If a bodyguard tries to tell you where you are and aren't allowed to go you can freely ignore them.
Now this is definitely me talking tough, those are big dudes! But not one of them could keep me from seeing my newborn. They'd have to shoot me.
Remember, unless it's a cop, military personnel or first responder we're all civilians. You can ignore anything they tell you as if it were coming from little old me.0 -

This is just idle chit-chit, but I would not waste a lot of outrage on this story. I suspect a lot of these "stories" are more inflated gossip than actual facts. I have read other accounts where others have stated that the only people whose movements were restricted were those trying to intrude on Beyonce, gawk at her and her baby, take pictures, etc. Not saying those are true either, but people have a tendency to see the reality they want to see in situations such as this.0 -
But AZDak I LOOOVE my phony and completely manufactured outrage! It's all I have left since the mean website took the cookies away...0

On the radio this morning I heard that the hospital had made a statement. Apparently, they did not rent out an entire floor, nor was another parent prohibited from seeing his child in NICU. Although I realize radio is media just like what brought us the initial reports, so who knows?0

I will say this much in defense of it- I have been to hospitals and recovery centers that have entire sections of the hospital closed down due to staffing issues. That may or may not have been the case here, but if it was then it is unlikely that anyone was unable to receive care just because they took up a whole floor of the hospital (if indeed they actually took that much space).0

Did she really have the baby or was she covering up having a surrogate? Now that is the true question....0
