Hello! Just wondered, if you are on the contraceptive pill which one are you on and have you found it helps with spots? I am going to the docs on Thursday and am going to be going on the pill and really want one which will make me less spotty and I don't want to put any weight on because of it (I've heard they can increase your appetite but I should be ok what with calorie counting etc).

Any suggestions/experiences gratefully received :-)

    Yes I'm on Yasmin and yes it's the one you use for skin. It's definitely helped, although it takes a few months I think.

    I haven't gained weight on it, but I haven't lost much either... it's difficult to say what affect it's had because I've been on it for a while. I've been curious to see what happens if I went off it to be honest.

    I have heard anecdotally that Yasmin is meant to be a good one. I would discuss it with your GP/Nurse, they should give you best one for you. I am on Cileste which I have no side effects from but it suits me and not everyone. I get the odd spot but no break outs and I had pretty bad skin as a teen.

    This chart is very helpful you can go armed with a few brand suggestions;

    This reminded me to look into the alternatives and actually Yasmin 'seems' to be the best for minimising the weight-gain side effects of the pill and I found this - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-150896/The-perfect-pill.html

    Guess I'll stay on it!

    I'm on Co-cyprindiol which is fine for me & definitely helps with my skin. I was originally on Dianette but my GP told me that's its not suitable to be on for more than 3 - 6 months, so was switched on to this one.

    Grrr Doctor prescribed Microgynon 30 which I've been on before and can't remember why I decided to come off it :-( I hope it works within 5 months because I need to continue taking it while I'm on honeymoon so I don't get a period in Sri Lanka!!

    I was on Microgynon before I went onto Dianette. I was on that for 4 years and I still got spots with it, hopefully that won't be the case for you x

    I'm on Microgynon 30, but I still get spots. I have reasonably oily skin though anyway. I may have to come off it to see if it eases my migraines though :-/
  • I've had problems with acne since I was 17, I was Dianette for a few years its fab, but DVT risk is higher so they don't like to use this for long term, I was on marvelon, which is used in the States for acne, it was great, but due to a distribution problem about 6 months ago, they moved me on to Cileste, which I found to be good as well. I was Microgynon about 15 years ago and it was awful, spots, weight gain, outbreaks of tears and crazy appetite. But I suppose everyone is different. Good luck.

    Hiya, My doctor just prescribed femulen for me, I did have the mirena coil fitted but had it removed a few months back and me and my husband have been using condoms since then. I haven't started taking the pill yet as I have to wait for the first day of my next period but after reading the leaflet I'm not too sure I wanna take it at all! Not only can it 'cause a change in appetite but it can also cause weight gain as well! As well as having other undesirable side effects such as a growth in body and facial hair which I'm not too enthusiastic about either! lol My doctor wasn't very happy with the fact that my husband and I are only using condoms and I know they're not the most reliable form of contraception but I'm so sensitive to the hormones in the pill, I've tried a few as well as having the coil and I've had the implanon in my arm as well before and every time I've gained so much weight, the reason I actually got to my heaviest weight was due to contraceptive hormones!
    I'm doing so well to lose weight I keep thinking do I really want to chance it again? But I really don't want any more kids either (I've already got 2 boys who are enough of a handful at the moment!) It's a hard one for me to decide really. :ohwell:
    If anyone's got any suggestions for me I'd appreciate it!
    As for spot control contraceptives I'm sorry but I can't really help with that 'cause I'm always more concerned with weight gain then anything else! x
