Day 3 - How to Use Fruits and Veggies to Manage Your Weight

How's Day 3 going for everyone? My day started with blueberries on my oatmeal, as always, and I brought in broccoli to heat up with my Lean Cuisine mac & Cheese for lunch. Fresh fruit salad for dessert or a mid afternoon snack. Planning a 6' turkey sub from subway for dinner loaded with every veggie, except jalapenos and olives. And.......more servings to come....

None yet for me, but have split pea soup and salad planned for lunch, and a dinner of salmon and black bean tostadas with cabbage slaw planned. I might cut up a honeydew melon for some snacking too...0

Doing great Rose! That's an awesome start - planning ahead!0 -
I always have a hard time with veggies.. too many quick sandwiches for dinner on the run. Lunch is whatever the wife puts in the bag, usually a fruit or 2.
Doing good today though... canned Lentil soup (2) + 1 gala apple + 1 d'anjou pear = 4 servings.. 450 calories.0 -

Nice!! Could you have the sandwiches topped with a bunch of fresh veggie toppings? makes it so much more filling, too. I know that when I get my weekly treat of a 6' sub at Subway, it is so filling when they load up the veggies. They can barely close the sandwich!!!0 -
I do when I go to Subway.. but it's the homemade sandwiches... just too lazy to throw on lettuce tomato & pickles.. often I'll just scoop on some hots and call it a sandwich.0

I hear you on that. it seems so simple but, at the same time, it always feels like so much work. LOL Lately, I have been trying to have a bunch of salad in a big tupperware in the fridge at all times and also a baggie with sliced cucumbers and I grab a baggie of the cucumbers instead of chips and I grab the veggies from the salad and pile them on. It's not bad at all, if it's prepped in advance.0

Fruits are always easy for me to squeeze in my day - they're great snacks and easy to eat on the go! I've already had an orange & a banana today, and will probably have an apple as an evening snack.
The challenege for me is vegetables. The only vegetables I can eat raw are frozen peas - I like veggies cooked not raw. So finding the time to cook them is one challenge, finding an actual meal to cook them with is another. Any suggestions? So far for veggies I've had 20 fresh green beans at lunch, hoping to get in at least 1-2 more servings at dinnertime!0 -

I was actually reading something just this morning about what to do if you don't like vegetables and it said to make a list of all the vegetables...... here I'll copy and paste it, rather than try to paraphrase:
"What if you don't like fruits and vegetables? Take out a pen and list all the vegetables you've heard of and we'll bet there are a few you like. Artichokes? Corn? Cucumber? On this list, circle all the vegetables you like, and tape the list to your refrigerator. You don't have to eat a different one a day. Find a few you like, and start to incorporate them in your diet. Start by incorporating just one vegetable a day in each meal and one fruit. Maybe you are getting older and would be motivated by the fact that certain fruits like Pears help to preserve your eyesight, lower your cholesterol and help reduce the risk of colon cancer. Just being told that "something is good for you" often does nothing. But if you have a specific reason, for example mapping pears and fruit to better eyesight, it will help in your day to day decision making.
You'll find, as time goes on and you get suggestions of ways to prepare them from others, you'll start to try different ones. Just get the habit formed with ones you like and your body will start to build up its nutrient reserves. Getting in the habit of eating a huge salad or two each day is a great way to make the bulk of your diet healthy and nutrient dense. If you make enough of a change in your diet, your body will start to respond very quickly. If you replace meat and dairy with healthy foods, you will lose weight quickly. "0 -

Its not that I don't like veggies - I love them! But I just don't like them raw (like baby carrots and peppers) - but I love them cooked in stir fry, steamed, etc. But they're hard to eat on the go when they need to be hot and you need a fork and this and that - ya know what I mean? I would love to incorporate them more into my busy life but just don't know how.0 -
I would try what is suggested in the quote i posted, as far as finding some raw veggie that you might like. As for cooked ones, can you heat at work - microwave? If so, I would cook up a bunch of steamed (best) veggies and maybe some stir fry at the beginning of the week and lock them up in a tupperware and bring a serving to work every day.0

Way to go!! I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes for you. And, as for your post before, you did really good.0
