my son is 2 yrs old, all he eats right now is chicken nuggets, hot dogs and mac & cheese. we have been successful in getting him to eat peas, carrots, broccoli and salad, but he doesn't eat them as often as we do. We always have some on his plate, but some days he just ignores it.

For breakfast and lunch they get whatever they want as long as it's somewhat healthy. For dinner, we all eat the same thing. We have a 3 bite rule in our house - you have to eat at least 3 bites then if they decide they don't like it they can have a sandwich or something, but I'm not making a whole other meal just for the kids. Even the 1 year old eats what we do.

90% of the time L eats what the hubby and I do. If I make something that I know he doesn't like (but we want anyways), I will make him a sandwich or some meat and cheese.

My daughter is two and she eats the same meals we do, unless I'm making something that I know she's not crazy about. Then I'll fix her a grilled cheese sandwich or something, but for the most part, she's really good about eating.

My daughter has been eating what we eat since she was 6 months old, as long as it isn't dangerous (eg, whole nuts). She actually have some lobster on Christmas Eve and loved it. I like it this way because it makes me cook healthier. While I may get lazy and want to just make a box of Kraft Dinner to eat, I don't want her eating that so I will suck it up and make a real meal. It also makes me limit my take out She doesn't eat a lot of meat, but some days she will surprise me!

They eat the same as us. No sense in Dh and I eatting healthy to lose weight and not taking the teaching opportunity that comes with it. Last week I learned Dd doesn't like black beans mixed in her egg burritos but she loves egg burritos and will eat those over sugary cereal. So it's good for all of us!

My boys eat whatever hubby and I are eating, however, I am very picky, so hubby and older son have a "better" version of dinner (more veggies, etc) while younger son and I usually have a near veggie free version (though he does like more veggies than I do. My 2 yo daughter is a different story though. She is me, at two. She will not even try things yet. We still put them on her plate (or a plate next to her real plate, so when she starts crying about it being too close to her it's easier to remove so she'll actually EAT)....she lives on peanut butter, chicken nuggets, and fruit. when she's older (probably 4) she can TRY things or starve....that has always been the rule with the older two. We have a 2 no thank you bite rule. even if they've tried something before and "don't like it" they still have to take 2 no thank you bites. I am FAR too pipcky and was never forced to try things. There are still things I won't even try (I have mental texture issues)....my kids will NOT be like me! I JUST tries rice for the the first time liek a month ago - it's AWESOME!!!
  • My son is a very picky three year old eater. He does not like many foods, so I try to make the healthiest choices for him that I can. He loves sweet things and chocolate(hubby got him hooked young), so we alternate sweet snacks. Once a week he can have a cookie or cake but all other days its the yoplait chocolate whipped yogurt. He loves chips but I found these gerber toddler snacks that taste like chips but are a healthy version. So we do the same rule, one day he can have chips but the other six, it's the Gerber snacks.

I would love it if he would eat the same food for dinner that we do, but he is not very adventurous when it comes to food. (at least not yet.) He has been trying new things lately but just a bite and then spitting it out. However, last week he ate chocolate graham cracker and liked it so ate more than just the one bite.

Also, he loves chicken nuggets so I buy the frozen ones and bake them at home. This saves him the fat of the McDonald's version, and the fried oil to boot.

Any recommendations or suggestions about how to help him branch out?
