Starting my half training schedule soon, and was curious what other folks have done as far as strength training. I see it as one day a week, but how much extra strength training should I throw in?
3x a week?
3x a week?

I am interested in this as well.
When I trained for my half marathons I did 3 days a week of strength training.
I am training for a full later this year and am unsure of how many days to incorporate into my training plan.0 -
IMO it just depends on what's important to you, the running or the strength training. They aren't completely exclusive, but doing a lot of one, will affect the other.
Plus it also depends on how you want to do your strength training. Are you breaking up body parts or are you going to do a total body type workout?
I'm currently training for a full, and plan to incorporate one hard upper body strength day, with a 2nd less intense day on one of my off running days or on a short run day. I will monitor things and see how it goes, I don't want to lose any muscle mass like I did last year (even though it was just a slight loss)0 -
Rybo,
The running is more important to me, since I'm actually trying to hit a goal time of 2:15. I'd like to do some isolated strength training to improve certain areas, like the muscles around my knees, my core, and more shoulders.0 -
The two can go hand in hand, particularly for a half. I've run two halfs, and trained 4x a week doing 5/3/1 which is a programme for raw strength. Im currently 5 weeks into Higdons advanced 2, and the strenght training has sufffered a bit, but not so much that im not still putting in good sessions. As of next week however, i am going onto a minimalist 3 day split as running has to take precendence.
OP, just remember to eat your cals, and do some squats and lunges0 -
Yeah. I'm 1.5lbs from my goal, and will be switching to maintenance mode. Then will be eating my calories.
Will remember to do squats and lunges0
