I'm currently reading Keep the Aspidistra Flying by George Orwell, he's my favourite author, I'm making my way through his works at the moment. Before that I read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, an amazing book.
I'm a bit of a book nut, I'm one of those people that has about 20 books sitting on their bookshelf waiting to be read but still can't resist buying more books whenever possible!0 -
Oh I have stopped buying books....
I order them online to be delivered to the library that is 2 min away from what I live, when books arrive - they email me to collect. All free. Fantastic service
Glad I am not the only one book worm on here ... diet is not the only thing in our lives, is it?0 -
I'm reading Love Lies (Adele Parks) I got a Kindle for Christmas & it's the best thing ever.
I was running out of room to keep books :indifferent:

I am also a book worm. And also a paper lover and can't get into the idea of a kindle. Possibly for travel but not when i wantt o curl up on sofa with a cup of tea and a good book. Curling up with a Kindle just doesn't seem right.
I'm reading a thriller things just now, The Killing Hour. Not really a genre I've ever been into but my friend passed on a big pile of books and a lot of them seem to be crime thrillers so I'm giving it a go.0 -

Well, i always said I wouldn't get a Kindle but its an absolute revelation. I always have two or three books on the go and the Kindle allows me to do that without the pain of having to cart them all around.
I'm currently reading the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, the new Jonathan Frantzen which is fantastic, Silas Marner and some rather racy victorian porn I got free from Project Gutenberg. i love all the free books you get with a kindle.

I completely agree about the Kindle thing, I just can't get my head around the idea of it. In years to come I'll be showing my children what a book is as an alien concept I'm sure, but I will definitely be one of those people who refuse to give up paper!0

When Kindles first came out I was really against them, I love how a paper book feels (and smells) but my Mum got one, then my FIL and I started to look at them in a different light.
I think the screen is what sold it to me, because of the E-Ink thingy it is as close to reading ink printed on paper as you can get without it being real imho. I live in a very small house as well so unless it is a book I absolutely love I couldn't keep it as we don't have the room to store all the books I read. So for me the Kindle is a great gadget.
Oh and I can put it on my desk and read discretely at work, when it's quiet which is something I could never do with a paper book lol
I totally understand why some people wouldn't want one though.0 -
Again on the kindle debate. I'm torn
Pro - for travelling now that baggage allowance is so low a kindle would be better than lining the bottom of my case with books.
Con- I don't fancy reading Harry Potter to my son when he is old enough on the Kindle !0 -
I like to "own" things so I'm not sure I'd get on well with the Kindle. I also don't think it should cost £8 odd etc for a Kindle book or £10 odd for the actual book. I'd rather have the actual book and then have it posted to me. I feel like I'm getting more for my monies then lol
Also, when I go on holiday, I tend to "do" stuff so don't have time to read anyway

The problem I have with the kindle is that I love re-reading a lot of my existing books, so I'd need to put them on the kindle, which, as someone's pointed out, costs about £8/book.... which is a little excessive. Not to mention, some of the authors I like, (sci-fi/fantasy) write trilogies/massive great series & there's only the first book on the kindle. Not helpful.
On the other hand, I am borrowing my mother's for when I go on holiday in about a month :-) It helps that I'll read anything & she's already downloaded a ton of freebie books onto it :-)
Otherwise, the last book I read was 'The Lady of the River' - Phillipa Gregory. Historical fiction :-)0 -

The only thing I'm reading at the moment is Advanced Biology. Exam time :grumble:
But if I get some time to myself to relax once they're over, I'll carry on reading Nature's Building Blocks (a book about the elements) and for a less scientific read, The Pagan Christ by Tom Harpur.0 -

I dropped the Maths recently! I missed so many lessons due to my migraines and I can't concentrate at the best of times. I already have an A Level in Human Biology and a Certificate of Higher Education in Natural Sciences (and Maths) so Biology isn't a chore :happy: I enjoy learning. It's all I've got left to enjoy seeing as I can't get out much :grumble: And it's more interesting than housework :laugh:
I'm doing AS French too, but that's on the back burner at the moment, my brain can't handle being filled with more than one lot of information at a time lol0 -
I'm currently reading 'The Shining'. Before that I read 'Carrie' both by Stephen King. These were books I got years ago and only just got round to reading. I just can't stick to reading, never any peace and quiet at home (with parents and an older brother). If I read in bed, I can either hear the television on loud downstairs and in the next room, which just makes me lose focus; resulting in reading the same bit over and over to register it. Thanks to the distractions, its taken me almost a month and only 4/5 through current book, not reading every night though but most.
However If I was to get into reading more, I think I would buy a kindle as I'm not one for keeping items. If I could I'd throw out a lot more junk in the home. I like less clutter so having books on 1 device would be better than a whole bookshelf.0 -
My better half just bought me the first two books in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin. I really enjoyed the tv series and I'm looking forward to season two hitting the screens!0

If you're not bothered about owning them, use a library :happy: I just can't get my head around the cost of a Kindle book. I know there are ways ::::ahem:::: of "acquiring" them free of charge. I think that's the only way I'd use one. I was thinking about getting a tabet for when I start my OU courses again so I can read the PDF files on there instead of carting the books around with me so I can study elsewhere. My hubby was going to get me a Kindle for Xmas until he realised that I really didn't want one. I think he loves the fact I'm a cheap date :laugh:0

Nearly finished Girl in Translation last night - great book.
My library has online catalogue, I can order what I want and they email me when it is ready for collection - all free.
I normally order 10 books or so - always have something to read at home.
LOve my books but would not buy/store as I do not read the same book twice...0 -

But that's what libraries are for too, so you're not buying them. I don't buy huge amounts of books, only mainly ones for study at the moment. Like I said, the only way I'd get on with a Kindle at the moment is if the books were pretty much free. Then again, the books I like to read aren't in the best sellers list anyway so I doubt they'd be costing much. Then again, I saw one of the study books I've got on Amazon had a Kindle version, and it was only a few £s cheaper :noway: Most of the wood comes from pine forests anyway, which are managed forests. However, I also don't really agree with them seeing as they're taking up space where native species could go.

I'm reading Bridget Jones Edge of Reason at the moment. I also love Sophie Kinsella and I love Jodi Picoult (have read almost all of hers).
Oh and I adore my kindle. At first I didn't think I would want one but then when I started my current job with a very long commute I started to think that buying 1-2 books per week is a) expensive - much cheaper with Kindle and lots of the books I already have were free, classics I mean and b) takes up a lot of space in my flat. Not to mention my handbag - it's no longer book vs packed lunch or gym stuff!0 -

Ha! Reminds me of a time I had to stop playing a mindfullness CD in the car as I was getting too relaxed to drive.
I'm reading The Road Home (Rose Tremain). My last book was The Lacuna, which I loved.
I have to have paper books but have bought my kids kindles as a) it's a national emergency when they run out of books b) I can't transport enough books for them on holidays and stay under the luggage weight allowance.0 -

hahaha nope, 2 mid-length train journeys and quite a long walk (which is good really, some forced exercise even if I don't feel like it). Lately I've had a bit too much on my mind though and finding I can't focus on my reading which makes me a bit sad

Yeah, I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I think she does quite a variety though. I liked 'twenties girl' and I've liked some of the Madeline Wickham books but I can't bring myself to read the shopaholic series (mostly because I hated the movie so much!).
Tried to read 'One day' too but I found the characters really annoying so didn't get too far.0 -
