Trouble Losing Weight

Hi all. I lost about 70 lbs eating a carnivorous diet. This year I decided to go vegan to be healthier and to reduce harm. I'm trying to lose about 10 more pounds and I can't seem to shake it. I just signed back up for myfitnesspal, because I have a fitbit that syncs to it, but I was tracking using a different service before. I obviously know how to lose weight because I lost the 70 lbs on my own and I'm not becoming a junk food vegan either. I'm working out every day doing Jillian Michael's 30 day slim down program and on my off day I'm doing yoga at my local studio and I'm drinking only water.

Has anyone else gone through this and or has any tips?

Thanks!

I hear those last 10 are the hardest.

I've been vegan for two years. When I initially went vegan, I didn't gain weight, but I didn't lose any either. When I started exercising in August, I started to lose weight finally. I am on a heart medication that slows my heart rate and have been told that will slow my weight loss. It has been slow, but at least I am losing.

You do need to watch your carbs. It is easy to eat too many carbs on a vegan diet. I can notice a difference in the scale when I have pasta for dinner as opposed to something like beans and brown rice.

I would just encourage you to keep doing what you're doing - eating well and exercising. And congratulations on your 70# loss! That is a great accomplishment!

Oil and sugar are completely acceptable in most vegan diets. I would suggest limited use of both. I think that would have a significant effect on your weight loss as your carbohydrate consumption as a vegan is just gonna be high.

    Good luck to you!

Veggies, veggies, veggies. And everyone else's great advice too. Congrats on the 70 already!

After losing 70 pounds, my losses came to a screeching halt. I did go a little lower but it took F O R E V E R for a pound or two to come off. I got discouraged and settled into a "maintain" routine which I guess is fine. I'm going back at it and figure that if I eat healthy and exercise, the pounds will eventually come off.

I agree keep with the veggies! Also, maybe evaluate your need to lose those 10 pounds. You look pretty slim in your pic! But if you feel like you need to lose some more, I would watch the carbs and change up your exercise routine.

PCRM has info on weightless and veganism. A little chart with checkboxes might help, and I remember copying it from vegetarian journal one month. If u keep to the boxes it's pretty easy to not only stay balanced but also to stick with whole foods. Try browsing Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

Congrats on the 70! that's spectacular!! What helped me was following the Engine 2 Diet menus for a month or so, then switching to Happy Herbivore's menus....both are available online and with shopping lists. HH are by a suggested donation of $5. They both sort of got me on track of not eating any refined foods, online whole grains, no added fats or oils, in addition to not consuming meat, dairy or eggs. The beginning of the Engine 2 diet does call for some processed vegan foods, but it's meant to help people who were formerly eating the SAD. Even with that it's easy to lose weight. And, really, you can just eat your weight in veggies. it's all the other stuff that causes problems. ;)
