Hey guys...
so i've been with my new lifestyle for almost a month now.. I was doing great, and shed 9.5 pounds... and then since last tuesday, I gained 2.5 pounds back
I've NO idea why because I've not cheated once.. I'm eating 1700 calories since I breastfeed my 7 month old son. ( he eats every 3-4 hours now )... but I'm thinking of only letting myself eat 1500 calories?
Anyways... I cheated one night, out of the whole time i've been eating well.. but I was still under my calorie intake.

I do the 30 day shed, every single day..and in addition to that I also either do pilates, or take my kids in their stroller for a brisk walk..
How's it possible that I'm NOT loosing weight, and how is it possible that I gained 2.5 pounds back?

I love breastfeeding... but I want my body back SO BAD.... and I'm thinking of stopping so I can lose weight. That sounds so selfish..
But I've two under two.. so the last 3 years I've given my body to two ROUGH pregnancies... 2 kids have breastfed, I've not slept through one night in the last 2 years... and I'm just ready to help my body be better, for ME.

What are your thoughts? Sorry that sounds so selfish... but my baby is now 7 months old.. again, I don't want to stop.. but last time around I had issues loosing weight too, while I was breastfeeding....

I feel really discouraged because I've been doing so well.

I hit a plateau about a month ago. My youngest is 15 months and still feeds 7 -9 times per day (I love not having my period which is one of the reasons I'm not trying to wean him). I tried to lower my calories, up my calories, ate like crazy (Christmas time), and started 30DS. Well, for the past week I haven't done 30DS because my knees were killing me and frankly haven't started again due to energy (or lack of it) and the snow (I've been shoveling since my husband's back has been real bad). Well, low and behold, I"m starting to lose again since I stopped 30DS and I've been eating around 1700 calories a day (some days even worse). I really think it's just trial and error in figuring this out since we don't know for sure exactly how many calories our bodies burn making milk (yes, we know the milk is 20 kcal per ounce, but we don't know the energy used to produce that in our bodies). Good luck and know you are not alone with the frustration.

If you need to quit breastfeeding because you are unhappy with it that's one thing but don't quit to lose weight. You're just giving up a source of burning extra calories and that will make it harder, not easier for you to lose weight. I think you really need to examine your expectations and just how realistic they are. You are doing amazing for the age of your son and the limited time you've made this lifestyle change. You're down 10 pounds and a pants size. A lot of people work months and months to get there. You're just hitting a mini plateau that's going to require you to switch it up a bit. I definitely think switching to 1500 calories is worth a shot. One thing that might work for you is calorie cycling. Do one day 1200, one day 1400, one day 1500 and then back down kind of thing. (I'm just throwing out those numbers arbitrarily.) I would also say not to eat all of your exercise calories if you are. Other than that I think you just have to give it time and keep doing what you're doing. You might also want to try doing a different workout as the shred doesn't really have enough cardio in my opinion to burn off the kind of calories you're looking to burn. During the cardio portion my heart rate gets way up but the rest of the time it's just slowing down. I think the weights are great in addition but you need some high impact cardio as well. That's all I can think of for now but I just want to say again that you're doing so amazing for being less than a year post-partum. Try to be gentle with yourself and look how far you've come rather than just where you want to go.
  • Awe thanks.

I'm not doing a pants size. Just can fit better in the ones I have. I'm down 8 pounds, but I think that's because a lot of it was water weight from all that Christmas Eating.
My goals are to maintain a 1 pound weight loss per week.. and I do, and I know a lot of other mamas hold onto fat while breastfeeding, and as soon as they wean they lose it. Weather it be 5 or 10 extra pounds.

I most likely won't break our breastfeeding relationship, because it's special.. and can't be brought back once he's weaned. I'm just overly frustrated right now.
  • I had the same problem when my son was about five months and I too was working out everyday. What helped me was to stop working out everyday and switch it to every other day. After that I started to lose the weight. Don't give up it only gets easier. I'm still breast feeding and he's 13 months now.

You're doing awesome! Breastfeeding my oldest baby became really challenging around 8 months. She was biting, distracted, and my supply was dwindling. I also was trying to lose weight, so I decided to just wean her. Well, no additional weight came off, and I had to eat even fewer calories. I have also heard that breastfeeding causes you to hold onto the last few pounds, but this turned out not to be the case for me. I have three children under age four, and I have been continually pregnant or nursing for over four years. Don't feel selfish. It's tough, and at times you really do feel like you have sacrificed your body to the point of no return. Are you taking your measurements? The scale can be very misleading. I wouldn't drop below 1600 calories because of supply issues. If you enjoy what you're doing, keep it up, and you'll push through it! Good luck.

you have a lot of activity in there that will contribute to muscle gain. I am thinking that that is the source of your weight gain- not fat. Go by measurements.
