How do you stay focused?

I have 138lbs to lose still and sometimes when I look at it, it seems so daunting. Feels like I will never get there. Losing 2 or 3 lbs a week seems insignificant some times.

How do you stay focused and motivated with such a long journey ahead of you?

  • One day, one week, one goal, one exercise at a time! My end goal is so important to me that it keeps me going, but sometimes the thought of the overall work that it's going to take to get there is VERY daunting, so I break it down to smaller goals. Instead of thinking "I HAVE 100 to lose". I tell myself for this month I'll do my best to lose 10lbs. Then I figure out what I need to do to get there. I made a work out schedule so I can clearly see my exercise goal for the day/ week. When it starts to become easy, up it. Find a cheering section -people that know your end goal and report your daily stuff to them, they can't make you do anything but when you've reported that you hit a mini goal it feels great to have others tell you they are proud!

It's a long journey. You can do it!

I try not to think of the 110lbs I want to lose as one whole number. I do try to break it down or otherwise I become so very discouraged when I hit a bump in the road - like this week - a pound gain!!! But i am determined to prevail - .... Good luck and friend me is you like.

I know I have about 120lbs to lose, but thats a 3 digit scary number.. so I quarter it. 30lbs seems a lot smaller of a deal and each pound I lose is a much bigger percentage of that 30. 30 lbs is only 15 good weeks of workin at it! (I hope) Once i lose those 30lbs maybe I will go out for a little shopping spree since none of my clothes will fit me at that point. I will keep on truckin and lose another 30, and maybe get my wedding ring resized when I hit that point. The rewards aren't huge but they are significant in my life. And by that time i will have lost 60 lbs and half way to my total goal! Its easier that way, its more fun that way, and its definitely less.. scary.

Another way I look at it.. is I look back. If others can lose 100 or even the 120 in a year, what if I had started a year ago in my life? What was I doing a year ago? It doesn't seem that long ago, and it's really not that far away. It's quicker than you think. This is just such a small part of your life, its just something that needs to be fixed and then you get to live the healthy life you (I) should have started a year ago.

Thats basically my inner monologue. If i had done this a year ago when I said I would I would already have what I wanted and just maintaining a healthy life.

Anyways, these things worked for me.. Just keep at it, we're here to support you!
