Girl asks, "Do you swing?"

This happened a while ago, but I'm still baffled by it. I was leaving work from the mall one day, and this girl stops me. I thought she was going to ask for directions or whether any stores were still opened, etc... typical people going to mall questions. But she asks me, "Do you swing?" When I asked her what that meant, she just asked me whether I like girls. I do my deer in the headlight stance, because why didn't she just ask whether I was gay? At the time, I had no idea what "swing" meant except for the ones we grew up with on the playground. I at least knew she didn't mean that swing.

Anyway, I looked up "swing," and it's people who have sex with multiple people, right? Was she asking me for a one night stand?!! :embarassed: Do swingers typically do something like this? Just go up to random people in public places? I'm surprised anyone would actually come up to me to ask me that, because I have the nerdy, goody, Asian girl with glasses look, although at the same time, I can say I don't look very intimidating to come up to.

In my situation, would you have done the same and made a quick exit? :blushing:   What would you have done?

I have also heard people say "Do you swing both ways?"= Are you bisexual?. I have a feeling she meant "Do you swing towards guys" or something.

Oh, I have heard of that, too. I either need to carry a dictionary with me or get a data plan on my phone, so I can check urban dictionary for this stuff.

That is a little odd. To "swing" is usually a sexual practice of having sex with people somewhat casually, usually in the context of couples, couples + singles, couple+couple (as opposed to say, two singles going home from a bar for a one night stand). (As a side note, there are a lot of variations on consensual non-mongamy, including things like poly-amory, but that's off-topic I guess.) To "swing both ways" is an established expression (which is to say, one my parents would know) to indicate being bisexual.

I am bisexual, and have been involved in swinging and other alternative communities. But that sort of random encounter would have made even me a little nervous--maybe I'm paranoid, but something about that is just too random, and too out of context. If she were hot, I might have been tempted though. The most openly open people/couples I know, might mention in a very casual conversation that they swing, but I can't imagine them walking up to a stranger in a car and asking a question like that with no prior interaction or context.

Oh, and some of us like glasses.

I was too alarmed. I just said "um, I need to go" and walked away without looking back.
Then I would have said YES!! Lol

 I'll get her number for you next time. But then again, we probably have different taste in women. What I consider hott may not be what you consider hott. In all seriousness, wouldn't you be concerned about going home with a random stranger? STDs, wondering how they'd treat you in bed, being recorded, etc...? She didn't seem very threatening to me which is why I stopped to answer her question in the first place, but you never know.

I watch too much Criminal Minds.

what do you usually say to them, when they ask you?

i've had people ask me online (which I just ignore) but never in person.

Someone told me that swingers usually know each other through some sort of connection. With this girl, I was walking towards where my mom usually picks me up from work. Imagine. "Hey mom. You can go home. I'm leaving with that girl. *points at hott girl*" He also said that it might've been a prank. So I don't know.

I don't think this girl knew me at all unless she saw me at my workplace, but I would usually recognize customers despite it being a huge department store. Also, she seem to be headed into the mall as I was heading out. So she definitely wasn't following me.

Ok I get your point about STDs, but... Whaaaat?? Where the hell do you live that you have to worry about this kind of crazy ****? That kind of stuff doesn't even cross my mind! Being recorded? WTF?

Sounds good. It's firm and doesn't sound rude.

Next time I'm just taking numbers, so I can ask the person what they meant later when I'm less surprised.

To all: live life and have fun. You're missing out on some adventures!
