I was curious if anyone has been to an actualy treatment center before?
My parents would like me to look into a few, and I am seriously considering it. I was hoping that if anyone has, they would be able to tell me what your experience was like and if you would recommend it.
I've been looking into Remuda Ranch in AZ...
There is still a very large part of me that is terrified. Just looking for some encouragment.
Thanks

I went to the Renfrew Center, which was the first treatment center for eating disorders (at least in the US). They have centers all up the east coast and a couple others out west. While it didn't work for me, I wouldn't say it was their fault (I wasn't ready). I spent six months in day treatment and intensive outpatient, so I never had to leave home. It was amazing. I realized what all my problems were and had support on how to solve them. They require group therapy, individual therapy (all amazing, qualified therapists), nutritionist appointments, family therapy (where I dealt with a ton of family issues and got much closer to my family members), and meal time support. They have an inpatient option, but I opted out. With day treatment, you eat two meals with them while in IOP, you only eat one. It's an amazing experience and I loved all the people there. Plus, I met my best friend there and they had a once a week session to bring friends and family in to become educated about eating disorders. With day treatment, you also do art therapy and yoga occasionally. I highly recommend Renfrew.0

GO!! YOu are so lucky! I would give anything to be able to go. My insurance will only pay for hospitals. Which I have been to many times. They used to be really good with groups, but now because of $$$ they basically are just re feeding people. The idea is basically the same. You meet with a dietitian THEY WILL NOT START YOU OUT AT A HIGH AMOUNT OF CALORIES!!They have to go by where you are now and slowly add to that. Your body can go into shock if you re feed to fast..but you would meet with a dr, therapist, family therapy. We do things like art therapy, yoga, walks. You have to eat 100% of meals to keeppriviledges, monitored after eating, and where I was we had locked bathrooms so they had to let us in and they had to flush the toilets with a key. Dont know if they do it. Email me if you want. I have been in several times, but I can afford Renfrew and my insurance wont pay.Prob could try and fight it but every time I have had to go in I had to go right away so I couldnt fight it. Besides that I prob wasnt medically stable.0

I wish I could do that as well. Having space and time and the mental freedom to just deal with the ED without everything else for a little bit... that would be awesome. If you have the opportunity to do it, GO. Even if I could get my insurance to go for it, I could never afford the time away from work and my family. If you are in a place in your life where you can take advantage of a program like that, definitely go for it. I have no idea what they are like (sorry, no help there) but a time-out to focus in on healing has to be a good thing, regardless of the specifics of the actual program. Good luck to you!0

I have been to Remuda Ranch and it literally saved my life. I went to East before it was shut down, but it was ran the same way and owned by the same people. I have several friends who have been to West (AZ) as well. Let me know if you have any questions!0

Remuda Ranch has recently signed with an insurance company or two (Anthem I believe is one of them) and is considered a hospital. Worth looking into!
P.S. Sorry I posted this twice..can't figure out how to delete the first one!0 -
Thanks I live in Pa and they dont even want me to go out of state. Said they would pay for me to go to Pittsburgh hospital 10 before paying for anywhere else..well they are just about doing that. If I was in a position to go back in the hospital I would potion them this time. Obviously just refeeding me doesnt work.MAYBE IF I had support when I got out but I live alone and that is one of my down falls. I am looking for a roommate so this might help to. I have riends but they like to go out to eat and I am not comfortable with that so for now it just stays the way it is. Thanks for the info though..you never know.
And I cant take anymore time off of work as I dont know if they would keep my job since I have missed so much.0 -
Yes. Childrens Medical Center Dallas (psychiatric side) But thats only for kids under 18... So I dont think that would be of any help to you.0

I am starting in a partial hospitalisation program this month. I will be there Monday to Friday 10-4 having 2 snacks and lunch, plus group therapy, individual therapy, dietitian stuff...all the normal things I guess. I'm not sure what to think about it. A big part of me doesn't want to go at all because I am doing ok right now. But it's a great opportunity to kick anorexia in the face in a big way and wave goodbye to in forever. So I will give it a chance. It's just a shame it has screwed up my studies so much.0

I am currently at The Renfrew Center right now actually! I've been there for 10 weeks now. I started out being forced by my parents to go, and in many cases (like mine) it did not work until I let it/was ready for it to work. However, in my case, I have found that it has not only helped me with my symptom use but my emotional health, and how I cope with issues in my life. I owe it to them for helping me through a very bad depression, self isolation, and family issues. I look forward to seeing the girls, and the staff! I have grown to love the therapists and even the secretaries (who are AMAZING) and not to mention the girls! I have such a special relationship with the girls in my group, because for the group to work you need to be open and honest. I know for me it was very difficult sharing my feelings with complete strangers, but the more receptive you are to others the more comfortable you will feel sharing your own issues. I get so many helpful tips to deal with even the littlest things from the girls because they have experienced it! I love knowing that I have people who understand my situation. The only fault I have is that some of the dinners are extremely hard for me to eat. But I truly recommend Renfrew! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!0

"They" being insurance? You are right...just refeeding does not help with the core issue. I was inpatient many times just to get 'stable,' see a treatment team for a short while, and on my way...due to insurance. Are there any support groups in your area such as EDA or even OA? Or do you see a therapist for support? As far as work goes, if you need that level of care, nothing is important enough to keep you from going, you know? Your life is far more valuable than anything else.0
