I've started getting back into my swimming - but I am feeling the chlorine.

Any recommendations for anti-chlorine shampoo / products?

I remember (years ago) there used to be specific anti chlorine shampoos you could get in Boots. Do they still do them? I'm afraid I don't go swimming often enough to worry about the chlorine. I also try not to get my hair too wet because I have to dye it nowadays and also because it's very long and I cba walking around with soaking wet hair afterwards lol

Thanks I will have a look - I wonder if they actually work anyway. Perhaps a swimming hat is the answer but can't say I like the look!

I can't swim properly without putting my head forward into the pool or it strains my neck / back.

Thankfully even though it is a council pool, they have lovely free hair dryers so I don't have to go too far with the wet hair :)

Sun, Swim and Gym from Boots. I was going to post a link, but their website seems to be blocked on my work computer.

I wear a hat when I swim, but it doesn't do much to keep my hair dry. Maybe my head's a funny shape
  • I swim 4 days a week normally but haven't been this week due to the weather.
I personally don't let my hair get to wet, I always have it tied up high as I hate the chlorine in my hair.
I use Tigi bed head shampoo and Conditioner daily and it makes it soft and shiny x

I don't have lovely long tresses to worry about, but i use the gym's shower gel (which is usually some bog-standard cheepo stuff fragranced with coconut oil, but I always take my own conditioner (I had some coconut conditioner that I'd decanted into a small bottle, but I've left it behind one day so now I have a small bottle of Heavenly Herbals that I take with me.

I also have a shower at home every other day as well, just to get a better wash.

Either I'm scrubbing better than I did before, or I've just become accustomed to the chlorine because I don't really notice it as much as I did 3 months ago

Chlorinated wated removes natural oils from hair and skin so a hair oil treatment can help.

Free hair dryers?! We have to pay 20p for ours! lol

Here's the shampoo mentioned above http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Sun-Swim-Gym-3-in-1-Shampoo_16319/

Thanks everyone, I will pop into boots and give it a try.

I wore my hat for the first time for ages last night and my hair was only about 30% wet, despite swimming some under water so not too bad. Don't really like the look, but guess what - everyone moves out of your way ;)

Hair did feel a bit better afterwards so might keep it up in combo with the shampoo. Perhaps a hair oil treat as well.
  • Hi there,
I swim quite a lot and there is a wonderful product by Philip Kingsley called "swim cap". Its quite expensive (about £18.00) but lasts a long time. Basically you apply some of it to your hair before you swim and it acts like a barrier (a bit like a ducks feather) the chlorine water doesnt penetrate through. It also smells divine. Its worth trying, I've been using it since December and my hair isnt as dry as it used to be.

The only places I can find it online are places I've never heard of, amazon or john lewis. Just thought I'd reply though!
  • you can usually buy it in a hairdressers, I got mine in Toni and Guy. Expensive but worth it.

  • I use this shampoo http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Sun-Swim-Gym-3-in-1-Shampoo_16319/ and different conditioners. As I have long hair its a pain trying to keep dry

I would say put a light layer of conditioner on and then put a cap on top of it.

If everyone goes in the water with a load of products on their hair then the dosing system kicks in and more chlorine is pumped in to counter act the products floating around in there. :indifferent:
