Hello all, I thought I'd introduce myself seeing as I've just joined the group.

I'm Richard from Whitecourt. I work as a helicopter pilot up here, and try to come to the city as much as I can (do you blame me?)

Originally from Vancouver, BC it's been really hard for me to adjust to the Alberta lifestyle. Meaning there are many many more active people in Vancouver than there are in Whitecourt. I don't hunt or sled, so it really limits my options out here!

So I decided to leap into this MFP community, hoping that I can recapture some of my Vancouver glory.

Feel free to add me, or just say hello!

    Hi Richard,
My name is Justine. I live in Edmonton. I used to live in burnaby. I totally understand what you mean by it being hard to find things to keep busy in the winter here. Especially without spending a ton of money!

Hi Justine!! Thanks for the message.

It is really hard. Last year, I picked up some snowshoes, and that seems to be a pretty good activity that is inexpensive (once you buy the shoes themselves).

Otherwise, it's fighting mall traffic will have to do! lol

lol yes the malls are so busy here. West Ed is.... not that fun.
I have never actually tried snowshoeing.
I have a little boy so we only go outside for short periods before he gets too cold. haha
  • Some fun things that are inexpensive here in Edmonton are, skating in front city hall, or get a year pass to Fort Edmonton, Muttart Conservatory, John Jension Nature Centre, and the Zoo costs $95 but use it at least six times in that year and you will have already started saving more then it's worth. :) And of course active things like taking walks through the river valley or just off fox drive there is a place you can go horse back ridding. I've lived in Alberta my hole life. Seems difficult to find things to do, especially in the winter but there are a lot of free things you can do just have to look around.
