50+ Pounds to Lose

I'm trying to lose at least 60lbs in the next 12 months. I've been watching what I eat, drinking more water, and last week I hit the gym twice. My goal is to be in the gym 3 - 5 times per week. I wanted to lose the weight faster, but I think slow and steady is the way to win this race......

Good luck! I want to lose at least 50 lbs, if not more. I thought I could get rid of 30 (having started at the beginning of the month) by my birthday in June... but I'm off to a slow start. Not because I'm not trying but, really, I don't know! It'll probably take me a good year to get it all off as well. We can do it - "slow and steady" as they say. :)

Honestly, I thought that I'd be able to pick up and lose 20/month (like I did in college) and lose all 60lbs in three months! Wrong. I'm dealing in reality now. I'm not in college. I'm not in my 20's and I don't have the same metabolism anymore. But, I do have time on my side. When I was in the gym last week (for the first time in over 6 months), I looked around and realized that this was going to take a lot longer than I had anticipated. The cool thing is, there were young people and older people there and that gave me the visual that I needed. Staying healthy and staying in shape is something I have to do consistently for the rest of my life. Each time I try to "drop a few pounds" it keeps getting harder, you know?

Here's a couple things that I'm trying right now:

    1. Walking the stairs at work. Walking stairs for 15+ minutes burns almost 300 calories and it works your calves, thighs, butt and your abs!
    2. Eating fruits and veggies as snacks during the day. A handful of baby carrots can fill you up and has only about 30 calories per serving!
    3. An apple a day. I love green apples. I love them even more knowing that an apple can be 35 calorie snack!

Good luck and we're going to get this thing done!
