Pronunciation of Vegan

Its come to my attention that there are about four different ways to pronounce "vegan". I've always heard it pronounced "vay-gun". The waiter at a restaurant pronounced it "vee-gun". I looked online and there are four acceptable pronunciations acceptable in the U.S. I, now, pronounce it "vee-gun" after reading that the "father" of veganism phrased it that way. Anyone know for certain the proper pronunciation? I'd like to not sound like an idiot the next time I order food at a restaurant!

Me, too. Based on the same origin story you heard. VEE-gun.0 -
I've never heard it said any other way besides "vee-gun". That's how they say it in all the movies too, like "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World", for example.0
