Really inexpensive clothing?

My rides are getting longer, and wearing fleece sweat pants on a road bike is getting old. I'm still 20lbs over my goal weight, so I don't want to invest $$$$ in bib/shorts and have to buy them again in a few months.

Anyone have a source for inexpensive but reasonable quality cycling clothing?

Even Performance is $40-60 for basic shorts.

Performance in EXPENSIVE (they have to pay for all those storefront and retail outlets where they give you crappy service).

    My favorite cheap-o suppliers are:

BIKE NASHBAR [my FAVORITE favorite]: http://bikenashbar.com/

    and

    SIERRA TRADING POST: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/

I have lost 30 pounds, but am still 20 or so away from my goal... so the idea of shelling out a merry fortune for crap I won't wear next year just irks me. BUT... if you don't mind last year's shade of black, you can save a bundle. Nashbar also has rider reviews, so you can better identify those products you might want to avoid. And NASHBAR has awesome sales... especially this time of year.

    Good luck!

I would also recommend Nashbar. Check out their clearance items. You can find great deals on items that they are down to one or two sizes in.

I've been very pleased with http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/ they have big sizes too :blushing: and their shipping to Japan has been cheap and fast!

For a good pair of shorts that go over your cycling shorts, but do not get in the way I LOVE the "Pedal Pushers"

They are a very light fabric, they dry quickly, they are tough, and have lots of pockets etc. they are a 3/4 length, but you can make them shorter if you like, they also sell some "Cargo Multi-Sport Shorts" which are very similar but much shorter. These go great over your cycling shorts if you are not wanting to show off your big butt, like me :blushing: but they don't get in the way for most cycling.

All made in the USA as well, good stuff, love the long sleeved one color jersey good price and very durable so far.

Both big and tall sizes, as well as kids and woman's sizes too. No complaints at all, no affiliation besides being a happy customer.

    Cheers!

Tall sizes are good, especially if they have gear that's actually /just/ tall.

I find Performance Bicycle to be very comparable.

    Nashbar is Performance's clearance retailer.

realcyclist.com has great deals on some pretty high-end stuff. I've also found good deals on eBay and Amazon.
  • Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for, especially with cycling clothing. If it's uncomfortable, chances are you won't want to ride or ride for very long.

If you know you're going to be changing sizes soon, I would check out eBay. They have some real steals on some new or lightly used cycling clothing. My husband found a pair of new Assos ($250) shorts for half price.

I ended up buying a nicer pair of Specialized at the LBS and also ordering one from Nashbar.

Also, Nashbar charges a lot for shipping, then sends things via SMARTPOST. That's like paying someone to kick you in the nuts. On the other hand, where else can you get a nice looking bib short for $40 total?
    .

    Thanks!

I haven't been able to bring myself to buy anything online. I really feel the need to finger the chamois before I buy. You never know how weak it will be. REI usually has fairly decent prices and I'm always on the lookout for sales.
