Hi, I just found this group. Just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm 29 years old and diagnosed with schizophrenia. At the mo I'm properly medicated and symptom free but I'm in the middle of switching meds so that may change but hopefully not. My biggest mental illness challenge related to weight is the meds. I've been on a couple of meds that have weight gain as a side effect. (Gained 75 pounds on olanzapine). I've lost 25 pounds in the last 3 years but still have 30 or more to go to be back at my "normal" weight. I am working really hard right now to lose that weight. Anyone is welcome to ad me as a friend I'd love to have some mental illness buddies.

Hello and welcome to the group!
I suffer from depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and mild agoraphobia. I am medicated for the anxiety, but not for anything else. I find that exercise and dieting helps with me
Feel free to add me!0 -
Hello!
I suffer from major depression and anxiety, for which I take Paxil daily. Fortunately, the medication itself has not caused any unwanted weight gain, but due to all the current stressors in my life at the moment, it's not working as effectively as it usually does (pretty much just prevents me from breaking down crying or mood swings into the super-mega-b**** category) That being said, I'm finding the depression is effecting my ability to lose weight.
I will definitely add you as a friend if you'd like! Good luck with your journey here on MFP, you CAN do it! )

Hi guys, thanks for your replies I added both of you.
hm_day I suffer from anxiety also especially when I'm not doing well. I find that sometimes anxiety gets in my way of exercising (to anxious to go to the gym, or scared to go for a walk by myself). I definitely find that when I do exercise though it makes a big difference, especially in my mood.
momstobig Stress is a big factor in mental illness for sure. If my stress levels have been high for awhile my symptoms often return. Depression will definitely effect anyones ability to lost weight. I know when I'm down I don't feel like exercising and will eat to make myself feel better - not a good combo.0 -

Hello and welcome!
Sorry for the late reply! It's great to meet you!
Congrats on your weight loss so far! I find it's extra challenging with the mental health issues.
You're doing GREAT!0 -
Hi, I'm new to this group as well...I've been recently diagnosed with bipolar and ADD. I also have anxiety problems. I'm finding it hard to lose weight because I get in these states of depression (because of the bipolar) where I just can't physically do anything. I've tried to do this once before and had good results but then quit out of nowhere but I'd really like to try again! I'm really hoping this helps and maybe being in a group where people understand what I'm going through will do me some good. Nice to "meet" you all!0
