hello all. I am trying out this method because I have hit a wall for the past 3 months after an Inital 30 pound loss. I still have another 50 or so I need to lose. Yesterday I set my mainitance on here and it came to 2020 with. No exercise and sedentary. My bmr is 1616. So how many calories do I need to eat per day? The 1616? I exercise a lot (6 days a week) and 3 of those days I am with my trainer so seeing the deficit is good so that I dont under eat. I think that has been my problem the last 3 months hence the reason I am not losing. I am confused what the second number is ? What is that for? If I chose not to exercise should I still eat the 1616 calories for the day and only have. 400 defect? What's the purpose of the second number. I'm just really loss. HELP!

Hi, I just joined this group yesterday but I will try to answer your question -- Yes, you need to always eat your 1616 calories whether you exercise or not. So days you don't exercise you will have a smaller deficit. If you do exercise, you don't have to eat back your exercise calories unless your "calorie remaining" number (the green number) is above 1000. If it is above 1000 then you need to eat back some calories to get that number to be 1000 or lower.

I am not sure what you mean by the second number unless you are referring to the exercise calories number. This number is just to show you how many calories you can burn with exercise without having to eat any back.

For example my bmr is 1306 and my maintenance is 1620 and my exercise number is 686 calories. So if I burn more than 686 calories and only eat my BMR (1306) my calories remaining will be over 1000 so I need to eat some of them back.

Today I burned 1186 calories in exercise so it says my goal is 2806 (maintenance + exercise calories). If I would only eat my BMR (1306) I would have a calories remaining number of 1500 so that means I have to eat 500 of my exercise calories back so I only have 1000 calorie deficit. So as you can see 1186-500 = 686 -- so I went over my 686 exercise calories by 500 so that is what I had to eat back. I really don't worry about that actual number I just watch my calories remaining number and make sure it is below 1000.

I hope I explained it right -- like I said I just joined the group yesterday so this is only my second day doing this method but I really like it so far!

Let me know if you have any more questions.

hi mi super confused about this as well, BUT i think i finallllly have it down! Thank you so much for this thread btw haha

    my BMR is 1,641
i multiplied by 1.25 bc im lazy so i got 2,052
    then i took my BMR 1641 x 1000 = 2,641
    2,641-2,052=589

SO, i can burn 589 through exercise and not HAVE to eat those calories back? i set my overall MFP calorie goal to 2,052, but only eat 1,641 if i don't exercise? do i have this right?

ill just get you my stats so you're not confused as well, any help/confirmation is appreciated, thank you!!!

    CW: 167.2
    GW: 155-150

    height 6'1"
    BMR 1,641

i exercise at most 4 times a week and burn about 350 calories per session.

    THANKYOU THANK YOU!

I just set my goals in mfp to maintenance instead of calculating my maintenance.

And yes you just don't want the green number (calories remaining) to be over 1000 so if you burn more than 589 calories through exercise it will make the calories remaining over 1000 so you will want to eat the difference to make the calories remaining below 1000.

Yes, you must eat your bmr (1641) and make sure your calories remaining are less than 1000 -- that's the two rules you need to follow.

Bump means -- bring up my post so it kind of renews it so others will see it (brings it up to the front page). But you won't get notified if someone responds unfortunately!
