roughly 15 (4mph) to 20 (3mph) min per mile x 50

It would depend on how many pubs I had to walk past, but 3-4 mph sounds about right for pavement walking0

Ha, this.
3.5 miles takes me about 50 minutes at my leisurely pace, but that's a London leisurely pace (probably 4mph).0 -
Not sure what speed I'd end up walking carrying 22 stone0

If you have a smart phone you can download an app called Endomondo, it tracks your speed & route and tells you how many cals you've burned based on your age & weight.
I'd allow yourself two - two 1/2 hours and just walk at a pace you're comfortable with, then you can try and beat that time next time you do it.
Good luck!!0 -
yes just take your time ,5miles quite farif yournot used to it so prob about 2 hours ish0

I was thinking of walking to work in Manchester. So would need to allow
time to shower and change when I get there too. Maybe I'll just practice
distance walking first before I try walking to work. My thought was if it gets
too much I can always finish the route off by bus0 -
Is Edmondo available for Android or is it an Iphone app0

Just googled it it is available for Andoid0

Brilliant, that's exactly what I do. Saves loads of money too!
I'd recommend walking home after work one evening when you don't have too big a time constraint. Time yourself and figure out your speed that way.
And take an ipod / music device type thing with you - makes the whole thing so much nicer and quicker!0 -
edmondo is a good one .I love walking I tend to walk to town and back if weather is nice pushing lo in buggy its a nice 4 mile walk but saves money and getting exercise as well .Great idea ,enjoy0
