I am a fan of Father Robert Baron, and I am really looking forward to the series on Catholicism that he put together. It starts on Thursday on ETWN.

Haven’t seen all or any of the CATHOLICISM series episodes by Fr. Barron yet? Well here are 10 sneak previews, one from each episode of the series (watch them below).

These previews have been released individually over the past year and I blogged about them each as they came out. But this is a nice post where you can watch all of the preview clips together in one post.

First, however, I want to encourage you to support the CATHOLICISM series. Not just because I’m a big fan of it, but because I hope we’re all big fans of good Catholic media in general. And this project represents, as George Weigel put it, “the most important media project in the history of the Catholic Church in America.” It took a lot of time, effort and money and if we want to see more amazing media projects like it in the future, it’s important that we show the investors in such a project how much we appreciate it!

I saw the 30 min prayer episode (awesome), and the 60 minute pilgrimage episode. :) Saturday night is 60 minutes? Anyhow. Very well done. I hope that EWTN starts doing more series like them.

What I'm really enjoying is the change of scenery from contemporary to ancient. They've done a really good job on these series. Our 11 and 9 year olds are able to stay focused and follow along. The students at the high school where we teach are also enjoying the videos. I'm looking forward to the third one this weekend.

We just finished watching the third one in the series. Very well done. My husband teaches a course on St. Thomas Aquinas and has published a lecture series on tape. Much of what he said in his lecture series was used in this film. So cool!

We just watched the 6th episode today. I really wish all Catholics and non-Catholics would watch this series to better understand the teachings of the church. I especially liked when Fr. Barron said that popes, priests, and others have done some horrible things in the name of Christianity (Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, support of slavery, child molestation issues). It is okay for us to say that some of our church leaders have made mistakes and done some things that were wrong. Popes, priests, cardinals, etc are not infallible. Anyone else have thoughts to share on this series?

Do you belive in the teaching of Papal infallibility?

The last one we watched was the one with St. Therese of Lisieaux. I'm not sure how many are left, but we've been watching them every Sunday.

I believe it's important to say we've had popes who have done some bad things. What do you think?

Oh course there have been Popes that did terrible things, but that has nothing to do with Papal Infallibility, which is applicable only under some very narrow conditions. We have been very lucky in recent centuries to have had excellent Popes.

Agreed! My concern is when non-Catholics hear "Papal Infallibility" they think we are defending all actions of all popes. Ya know?

The Pope can only be infallible on dogma, and that he cannot contradict the Magesterium, but speak in communion and in continuity with it. The Pope cannot go at it alone.

There are a lot of myths out there, some of which you seen pushed by people who haven't got a clue.

I like it that Benedict has made clear that his books on Jesus are his personal opinion.

We have a small group that meets once a week to watch the series. This past week we watched the session on the Eucharist. Awesome.

Indeed. It's a lot more important to **explain** just what Papal Infallibility means, rather than just admiting we have had bad popes.

There are FAR too many misunderstandings out there about Catholicism. I spend a lot of time on Yahoo Answers trying to dispell myth and rumor. It isn't easy.

I just saw the first one about the teachings of Jesus. Fr. Baron spent a lot of time on the beatitudes and how Christ on the cross was the fulfillment of the beatitudes. It was very interesting and well done.

One point he made that resonated with me - we are made with a longing for God, and if we try to fill it up with other things, that leads to addiction. As I'm fasting this Lent, I realize that before I wasn't overeating because I was hungry for food- I rarely (if ever) experienced that kind of hunger. It's kind of amazing just how little we actually need in terms of food (and other material things as well) if we put God at the center of our life.

It is so true. I am a Franciscan. St. Francis of Assisi really took it to the extreme. He was so focused on God that he basically never ate. And yet he walked miles for months at a time.

    Never a good idea.

I'm headed to Rome and Assisi on Saturday! (I know this isn't directly related to this topic, but Maxmarie's last post reminded me).

Oh I so agree! I'm also fasting this Lent and am losing weight, but I need to be careful that I don't start obsessing with weight loss and NOT eating since this will also take me away from putting God at the center [sigh].

We bought the series also. We also bought the 7 Deadly Sins/ 7 Lively Virtues DVD and workbook. Fr. Barron is so wonderful. He has been called the modern Bishop Fulton Sheen.
