Don't mean to sound racist here but why do the majority of the white people I deal with think that I'm obsessed with long hair? Everytime I put my hair in twists, braids, cornrows or something different, they ask does that make your hair grow? As if that's the only reason I change my my hair style. Then they bless me with the "knowledge" that they know such as " you know braids make your hair grow" . Do they think all black women are obsessed with long hair? Do they think we have a hard time growing long hair? Do they know white women buy more weave than black women. For the record my hair is natural and when it gets too long I cut it. So you can tell from this post I started asking them. Do you think that long hair is my deepest desire? My officemate thinks my response was funny but mean. What do you think?

I understand your irritation but I can't blame anyone from thinking that black women are obsessed with long hair. Didn't you see Chris Rock's documentary? That stuff is real. (Real stupid, IMO.)
My current waist-length, natural locs are what I want for now but that may change. (Beryl on Nappturality)0 -
I believe that we truly want long, sexy, and healthy hair. We are the only culture that can do many different styles with your hair. I am expressed with length and it is wonderful to see girls with natural hair have BSLor MBL. I want to get there one day and have my hair grow naturally and decide if i want to straighten it or not.0

This is too funny. Why are people obsess with seeing my natural hair and how long it is. I've been wearing braids and different weave styles for a year. Every time I come to work with a different style I get asked " How long is your hair now"....lol. Really people...why does it matter:laugh:0

I've said something along those lines (though secretly I am trying to grow my hair longer). For the girls with natural hair, let me ask you something. Do white people ever come up to you (both strangers and people you know) and ask touch your hair? I get when I'm in a bar or club ALL THE TIME.0

Unfortunately we live in a society that is based on appearance and age. People get caught up in these things and sometimes to their determent.
People should focus on the health of their hair instead of the length.
Good hair is healthy hair....at any length.0 -
Where did they get that idea from? You you talk about hair or visit the forums during work?0

I think when White women make comments like they did to you about our hair, it is because they are uncomfortable that we ARE comfortable with our own hair. White women cannot handle when we do not want OUR hair or when a Black woman wears her own hair. I'd take it with pride because their hair can't do what ours can...ah, I LOVE my NAPPY hair and YES, I said NAPPY!0
