Is anyone familiar with Capoeira? If you're not, here's a brief explanation about what Capoeira is.
Capoeira is considered a national sports in Brazil. Although the origins seem to be missing between the conflit to whether it was created in Africa or in Brazil by the African slaves, most will agree that Capoeira is Brazilian for the most part.
Because slaves weren't allowed to practice any form of self defense, they developed a way to do so while disguising it with dancing. The slave population was devoted to the "Santeria" along with other religions coming from Africa, and the constant chants, dances, ceremonies and festivals to worship their Gods and Goddesses, was the tool to fool their masters and learn to fight them back in case they would escape.
Capoeira is considered a martial art from the streets, where "malicia", street knowledge, is the key to survival. This art uses kicks, knees, elbows, hands, head, jumps, handstands and many more moves as a way of fighting, and the "jogo" or game, which refers to the combat, is dictated by the music played. Depending on which music it is play, the game could be slow, fast, between teachers, or to death (death games are prohibited).
Because Capoeira uses a lot of acrobatic moves, the practitioners or Capoeristas gain a lot of strength, stamina and flexibility. Academies of Capoeira can be found all over the world now a days, and everyone, from little kids to older people practice Capoeira now a days.
The reason why I mention this art, is because I studied it for about 1 year and a half years ago, and it is an amazing exercise to do. Although I am super out of shape in regards to this art, I was wondering if any of you was interested that I would prepare a Capoeira workout no longe than 30 minutes for one of the days we get to meet at a park. Don't worry, we won't be doing backflips or handstands lol.
Let me know what you think.
