Hello new followers! So, April's here, and the 'No Scale April' challenge is a-foot.
I realise that this isn't going to be easy for many of you out there, (myself included) but I have confidence in all of you, and our ability to accomplish such a thing.

So, let's start off with sharing with each other a little bit about ourselves to become better acquainted. I'll start off then;

My name is Jessica, I live in the UK, am 18 years old. I'm 5ft 5, and currently weigh 136lbs and this time last year I peaked my highest of 189lbs. I was so fed up and my confidence was at an all time low, so, I decided to improve my health by eating healthier..then came the exercise, and then, came the more extreme nature to portion control. I went on to develop an eating disorder (which, I admit is tough to say) until February this year. I'd realised just how obsessive I became with the number on the scales, weighing myself several times daily.
I am now focused upon improving my health, never looking back. I need to really appreciate myself as an individual. I've never been so happy in such a long time. Improving my diet and maintaining a positive attitude has done wonders for me.

So, what's your story? Feel free to share, if you'd rather not, then that's just fine and dandy also. :)

This month will be a positive month, free of negativity.

Hello, I'm Julie - also in the UK - and I've recently got back into the habit of weighing myself every morning.

I was a weekly scale jumper until I reached 200lbs - then the quest for onederland took over and I couldn't resist peeking on a daily basis! Now I need to break the habit - again!

It was my birthday this week and there was a fair amount of over indulgence, hot on the heels of a two week lay off waiting for the engineer to come back with parts for the treadmill, so this is a good time for me to get some focus back.

Thanks for the well timed challenge :flowerforyou:

Hello Julie, thank you for your comment and the introduction.
Not at all a problem, I think there's a fair few of us in need of a fresh start for the new month.

Hi, I'm Lisa from the suburbs of Chicago. Hmmm, let's see... Yes, I care about my weight but my goals of late are more fitness related. I'm training for a century (100 mile bike ride), which causes a lot of weight fluctuations, which had been stressing me out.

I haven't been weighing in quite as much lately, as it's hard to see a four pound gain the day after a 33 mile bike ride. (It was gone two days later, but still....) So this group is exactly what I need right now, just focusing on eating well and treating our bodies right. With that will, eventually, come long-term weight loss.

    Good luck everyone!!

(Now, where to put the scale so it won't tempt me daily? My husband weighs himself sometimes too, maybe I can get him on board?)

Hello everyone--my name is Suzanne from Michigan. Once before I managed to go w/o the scale for 3 weeks--then gave in and peaked. I'd like to try this again. I'm also trying to recover from binge eating--because of stress & boredom. I think the scale can take part of that. As for activities. I love walking running, and doing workout DVDs. I'm actually starting up my 3rd full round of Jillian's 30 day shred, so I hope doing this and not focusing on the scale will help me. Well..I think I've said enough. I'll give this another try! I'll ask my fiancee to hide the scale for me and not give it to me if i Beg, Cry, and Moan!

Good luck, everyone! Feel free to add me if you wish.

Hi my name is Kathy and I am from Northwest Indiana.
I have depended on the scale that it would actually set my mood for the day depending on whether it was a loss or a gain or if I stayed the same. I had already decided yesterday that I would weigh myself this morning and put the scale away until next month when I came across the group. I am really looking forward to just working out and feeling good from my workouts and my healthy eating.

Thanks for starting this group, Jessica! I've been debating ditching the scale for a few weeks and this finally did it for me. I've been I am way too dependent upon what it says as a measure of "success", esp when I can feel that my body is changing and measurements have proven it.

My name is Jeanne and I Iive near Minneapolis. I have been overweight for the better part of 20 years, following the death of my sister. Between that and being the perfect 90's workaholic, I managed to gain a lot of weight and for many reasons, I let it stick around! I have spend the last two years getting rid of 50# of it! I'd like to lose another 37#.

Running is my main source of exercise. I had never run until two years ago when I started Couch to 5k and now I can't stop. I had a very hard time trying to figure out how to keep my food balanced between what I need for weight loss and what I need for energy to run. I can't say I have it figured out completely, but I am getting there.

I think I will run put the scale down in my storage shed right now! Best of luck, all!

Ok I'm in! Will weigh 2moro morning so I know my start weight then will put those scales away. this is gunna be quite a challenge for me ! Im Chloe by the way :) from the uk. Did lose 20lbs since mid Jan but have gained 3 back so currently stand at having lost 17lbs. My goal weight is 140lbs, started at 185lbs (my heaviest weight) and am currently at 168 so still quite a way to go. have been stuck at the same weight gaining and losing the same 3 lbs for the last 4 weeks which is really demotivating so it should definitely help to put the scales away! good luck everyone :)

  • Hello, my name is Kimmie and I live in Danbury, NC. I like not getting on the scale, sounds good to me! Getting on the scales is so defeating at times. My weight is 217 and I want to lose 60 lbs. My heaviest has been 259 (when I was pregnant with my baby girl). Good luck to you all!

Hi, I am Cyndi from Knoxville, TN. I am really loving this idea. I started out wanting to lose weight but now that isn't the most important thing. In the last 3 weeks I have seen significant drops in my blood presure and blood sugar and that is what is really keeping me going. the truth is I have lost and put weight on in the last week, but I think it is from building muscle from adding exercise. I have a Dr.'s appointment tomorrow so I will be weighing there, but I will make that the last one till May 1st and this will be a challenge for me I can be scall obssessed. looking forward to getting to know you all better.

    Hi,

I'm Kevin and I'm From Chicago, USA. I'm 46 and finally reached that point were I realized something had to change. At the end of November I weighed 274, I wore shirts in pools, found it difficult to tie shoes when sitting down and was not happy when I looked in the mirror. I'm now weigh 242, have ditched the shirt, found it easier to tie my shoes and love the changes I'm starting to see. It was tough at first but you get past a point and the momentum just builds. I'm excited to work out and excited to lose about another 35 pounds and tone up.

    Hi everyone I'm Amy,

    I'm from Aus, 25 years old, 164cm (5 foot 4) and as of yesterday 94.5kgs! (208 pounds).

It's morning over here and I really had to force myself not to weigh in! I do it daily when I'm watching my diet, which is a bit controlling as it does set my mood for the day. Sometimes even if I lose weight I feel like I can treat myself, so I'm trying to avoid this trap!

I've lost 23 pounds since mid last year, it has been a slow process and now looking to lose some weight quickly.

Cannot wait to see the scales in a month!

    Nice to meet you all!

Hello, my name is Keyonna and I live in the Northeastern part of Indiana. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about a year and a half ago and I am finally doing something about it. I am looking to lose around 87 lbs and I put the scale out of my mind this morning. I started out on MFP weighing myself about everyday or every other and kept seeing the numbers just go up and down. I think this challenge will be perfect for me. I weighed myself this morning, and it will be very interesting to see what my numbers wind up at in a month. I am not always perfect about eating healthy and do have my splurge days. I try really hard to stay within my calorie count and I workout extensively every day. For example, today I did 3.09 miles with my puppy in tow and then came home and did Insanity. I normally only drink water. I do also drink soy milk and sometimes will drink a Naked.

I am hoping to really get the hang of not using the scale and relying on it. The numbers on the scale should not be nearly as important as I have made them. What is more important is how I'm feeling and seeing the inches coming off.

Hi all, my name is Judy and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada's East Coast. I am the old lady here at soon to be 62 yrs. I got to goal in 2007 after losing 80 lbs. I have put on 20 lbs and now trying to get that off.

Hey all, I'm in Ontario, Canada. I love this challenge! The scale is mean big machine for me. If I don't lose I cry and if I do I celebrate. I'm going to move into my spare bedroom so I don't even see it and I'm not tempted to get on it.

Hey everyone... My name is Krista. I am from Upstate New York. I have just started my real weight loss journey in February. I went to the doctor and weighed in at 308lbs (my highest ever!). I am currently engaged and am planning my wedding for 2014 and refuse to get married at such an unhappy weight when this should be the happiest time in my life. Since February I have lost 15lbs and am at 293lbs as of this morning. The scale is such a scary and fickle demon for me, I get motivated by a loss but get completely thrown off course when I gain the weight back. I "gained" back 3lbs over the weekend when I watched my calories so closely which makes no sense to me. I joined this group today hoping that I can find the strength in all of you to not let the scale de-rail my progress and to really focus on eating right and finding time for exercising instead of dreading the morning scale ritual.

Good luck to you all, and I hope that stupid scale enjoys its one month break from me as much as I will enjoy my break from it!

Hi! I'm Lisa from Wisconsin. I don't have a problem being obsessed with the scale, but when I do weigh myself, I let that control my mood. I want to focus on feeling better physically so I'm not going to let the scale rule me. We can do this!
