PCOS and How I'm Fixing Me! :)

Hey guys, I actually started this message board and I am SUPER excited to already see other people with PCOS reaching out! I have PCOS, and I have it all, overweight, hair loss(to the point I shaved my head all last year because being bald was better than the hair I had), cysts, anovulation, hirsutism , painful periods, you name it, I got it. I am on Metformin 1500 mgs a day, blood pressure meds, wellbutrin, intuniv, you get it, lots of damn pills, and I hate pills. I finally started letting my hair grow back when I realized I looked like Butter Bean... :) And found that Men's Rogaine Foam, that's right MENS, works wonders! I use it twice a day, I still wear a bandana every damn day, but my hair is slowly but damn surely getting thicker! I want out of this cycle of depression, guilt, self-hate, and emotional eating. And then I found this website the other day, and everything changed for me! I started a food diary, and realized when you write everything down, and I mean everything, you have to be accountable to yourself! And when you are staring at your goal number of calories, you don't really want to put "Huge Fried Chimichanga-1500 cal" on your food diary! AND when you start seeing results, which to us big girls doesn't take long, it is SO awesome and motivating! I started invisible jump roping in my house, and it burns ha ton of calories, keeps your heart rate up, and is free! I have lost 8 lbs so far in 2 weeks! So good luck to all you ladies with PCOS, and if anyone wants to add me, I would love to be friends!

My husband and I are working with a fertility specialist. He started me on metformin. The first two weeks I lost 15 pounds. The down side is it makes my stomach hurt, my hair is falling out, and I am breaking out.. I hate taking medicine and if I feel sick I wont take the huge pills. I started back again this week and hopefully I can start to lose weight again. The condition is frustrating and the medicine is as well. But losing weight and the possibility of having children makes it worth it.

I feel your pain on this. We are also working with fertility specialist. I have the metformin, insulin and have started my own regimin of apple cider vinager pills to help with blood sugar levels. The stomach issues with the metformin is the worst. To fill sick everyday is no way to live but like you said..... It is worth it in the long run. Best of luck to all of us.

Im so lucky I dont have any issues with the Metformin. I am on the slow release metformin and take two in the morning with food and I dont have any problems at all. I never heard about the hair loss either. The only real problems I have is very unslightly and horrible hairy patch under my chin which I literally have to shave twice a day. I dont get any periods either and me and my boyfriend really would like to try for a baby. Hence the reason why Im trying to loose weight.
My boyfriends Sister also has PCOS and has told me to take Soya Isoflavone for 5 days each month and apparently helps get my periods back. I've only just started this so I'll let you know how it goes if anyones intrested :) and thanks Vanessa for starting this group, its great to support each other with the same probs :)

I understand this, I felt the same way..but after taking it for a while, your body will get used to it...my doctor just prescibed that I bump my intake up to 3 a day...I'm at 2 right now.....

Maybe I am wrong, but I stopped taking metformin because of the stomach pain and constipation. I continue with my weightloos though and am trying to eat well. I am excited about this group.
