    This is going to sound incrediblity dumb...

    But do you have to heat up the skillet before you put the food in?

    Sorry, I really don't know anything about cooking.

    Yes. I always heat my pans before adding anything to them. The level of heat will depend on what you are cooking. Are you using non-stick, stainless steel, or cast iron?
