I have complete P90X then P90X / Turbo fire hybrid...and next planning to do P90X / Insanity hybrid. Does anyone have thoughts on the comparison of TurboFire and Insanity?
thanks!

Well, I've only done about 10 minutes of turbofire before realizing it's not for me and I've done 4 consecutive rounds of Insanity, so obviously, I'm a little biased...but my opinion is the main difference is Turbofire is very dancy (which is what did me in; I can't dance!), whereas the moves in Insanity are straightforward - you won't feel like you're on a dance floor when doing them. The principles in both programs are similar (using HIIT training). I think the best exercise is the one you'll keep with, so if you enjoy dancing and have a sense of rhythm, turbofire might be perfect. If not, and you just want to get a good, intense, no frills workout with a lean, mean crazy person screaming at you to "dig deeper," try Insanity. I hope that helps!
  • Insanity is so much fun, I know that sounds crazy bc it's a real challenge but I love how it's quick, straight forward and not time consuming. I've only been doing it for a week but it's my favorite workout now. Only issue I have is I can't seem to find out how to log the workouts on my fitness pal, but give it a try! Oh yeah, I suggest you take something to protect your joints such as osteobiflex or GNC's woman vitapak-active. GOOD LUCK :D
  • Personally, not an Insanity fan. I DO the workout and it's a GREAT workout but for me, it lacks the "fun" factor. Does it work? ABSOLUTELY. I've actually completed 3 rounds of it. However, I find that I do best with it mixed into a hybrid so if really depends on what you like about Turbo Fire. Both are HIIT workouts - high intensity interval training - but with a few differences.

Insanity is a very straight forward drill type workout. Like most Boot Camps (which I taught). There are several of the moves found in P90X plyo plus a few new ones. Jumping Jacks, pushups, tuck jumps, burpees, suicide drills...a LOT of plyo work done in intervals with very short breaks.

Turbo Fire is very similar to Turbo Kick workouts done in gyms (which I also taught). It's kickboxing on crack ;) The HIITs are just what Chalene calls "turbos" in her regular workouts only done back to back. These are the highest intensity part of each workout. When you do them with very short breaks, you get the HIIT training. Where Insanity gives you 30 sec. breaks after a 3 min push (except in Pure Cardio), Turbo Fire gives you 30-60 sec breaks after every min. You are able to catch your breath more.

Insanity has a longer PUSH for each interval and shorter breaks. One workout has a 20 min push with NO break. I personally believe that Insanity gives you a better HIIT workout because it offers more variety. But like I said, there is no FUN in Insanity. You should be dying from the warmup alone :)

  • Bkeefer8907, the workouts for the first month of Insanity are approximately 40 minutes each. When you do the abs with the Pure Cardio you'll tack on another 16 minutes to the 40 minute work out. The workouts move up to 50-60 minutes in month two, plus the extra time for the abs. You can google the length of the workouts as well. That's what I did in order to know how much time I needed to alott for the workouts.
