weaning a toddler

My daughter is 20mts and I have let her self wean. For the last couple of months she has only been nursing when she wakes up and when she goes to bed. This morning she didn't ask for "boop" . I think because I've been exercising more my milk tastes "off". Has anyone else experienced this??

I do not know if exercising makes the milk taste off, but my toddler too is not asking when he wakes up either now that you mention it. How drastically has you diet changed, could the milk taste different b/c of a diet change? Maybe they are just busy, or we taste sweaty or something! LOL Mine only nurses when he wakes up or goes to sleep, so I didn't even count the calories. Could it be possible that you are not making much milk anymore b/c of calorie cutting and exercise? Now you've got me thinking!

I feel really full so I don't think my supply is the issue. My diet is pretty much the same except I have cut out almost all soda and late night snacks. MFP has made me realize just how much I was grazing at night. Maybe she is just ready to be done...this is very bittersweet bc she is my last nursling.

My daughter stopped wanting to nurse as often after I started exercising. I chalked it up to her being interested in other things..she is 16 months old and was still nursing at night and in the morning, but I initiated the morning feed, not her. I discovered in her case that she was associating the boppy pillow with nursing. Whenever she would see it, she would try to pick it up and bring it to me screaming until i nursed her. I got rid of it two weeks ago, b/c we were only using it one or maybe twice a day and it was just taking up space. She has not even attempted to nurse one time since then. Turns out, out of sight, out of mind---without the boppy there to remind her, she forgot about it all together. Just thought I would mention, in case something else has changed that your toddler associated with nursing that is missing now??

I am in the exact same place as you... about a month earlier! I have a 15 month old and he goes to the boppy and says "meh... meh" I assume he's saying milk. I'm feeling like it's getting to be that time to wean...

Do you provide replacement foods for them? My boy seems to be starving first thing in the morning. I think I have been initiating the morning feedings, but he definitely whines for night time milk before bed!

I give my gal a sippy cup of her milk once we are up for the day and she has been eating table foods for a long time. I dilute and limit how much juice she has. She still wakes early in the morning and wants to nurse before we get up. She asked for "boop" this morning so maybe yesterday was just a fluke. :0)

I give her a cup of milk in the morning. She eats breakfast at daycare. I get her up about 7:15 and we are at daycare by 7:40, but she is definitely hungry when we get there. It makes dropping her off easier because she sits down and starts eating right away! My daughter has been drinking a lot more whole milk over the last weeks, but she is picky about food. Sometimes she can out eat her 5 year old brother and sometimes she won't touch her dinner. If she's acting picky I will give her a healthy snack (like banana, applesauce or yogurt) before bed, but I think this is about the time when their appetite starts dropping off.

Sounds like you are not ready for this to be over (I know it's sad...my daughter is my last also) so hopefully it was a fluke and you can extend this wonderful experience a little longer. Best wishes!
