Stress and BP

I am having a lot of stress this weekend and I was wondering what kind of things people do for stress relief? I know it makes my BP go up but sometimes in life stress is just not avoidable so coping is all you can really do. For me walking can be helpful as can taking a hot bubble bath or listening to music.

i wish i had somethin for ya, but they say this is the one thing americans struggle with across the board! I know i have no ideas. I NEED ideas because now that im conscious of it, i feel it happening and want to make it stop.0

Loving on my little dog helps! Animals are such stress relievers. They love you unconditionally and listen to everyword without judgment! Also a good cry helps me. I sometimes wonder what the big deal was afterwards. Oh and I look at what I'm stressed over and make a plan with steps to help alleviate the problem if I can. Having a plan helps me know I'm doing something about it. If it's something I can't control then I accept it and move on. Can't change what you can't control! Move on to something else! Speaking of...I have a hard time realizing I can only do so much for my husband to help him with his high blood pressure. I can't control him, I can only have good choices for him to eat conveniently around the house. Anyway, I struggle with this everyday. Its a work in progress!0

Guided meditation works wonders. There are books on self mediation and you can also buy cd's with recorded meditations already on them.
Many jobs offer free access to mental health councilors and stress is very legitimate reason for calling. During those sessions they will usually provide guided meditation.
It's been awhile, think when i get home I'll dig out one of my old cd's and give it a listen!0 -
i have no health insurance or anything at my job. Wish i did, cause i would love to talk it out. lol
I've considered some kind of stress relief cd's, but have no idea what to get so it seems like a waste of money.. Im taking yoga this week and i'll see what that does.0 -
when i first got diagnosed with hypertension my doctor listed several things to help reduce it., "diet, exercise, meditation, yoga and massage."
and I did all of them... for a couple months till money got tight. I did stick with the working out for a year or so (till I started dating my wife).
If your open to the ideo of meditation, then you can't go wrong buying a guided mediation cd, and some headphones, it really works best with headphones they block out distracting sounds from around you.
Of course massage was one of the best, but also one of the first i had to give up (money$)... $60 for an hourlong massage!!!0 -
oh my gosh i know! Massages are awesome but SO expensive! I have a yoga class scheduled tomorrow night to see how it feels. I will try to remember to check for meditation junk on iTunes so i can use my ipod!
Thanks for the tips!0 -
Watching the flames of a campfire or fish swimming in an aquarium works for me. When I take a rest during a hike or walk, I'll sit under a tree in a quiet location and observe, or fall asleep if I get too relaxed.0
