RUNNING MOMS HELP!!

I'm so embarrassed but I need some serious help/ advice. I'm just had a baby 4 months ago and I'm registered to run in a 5k next saturday. I'm conditioned to run the whole thing in about 30 minutes, but I can not do it without "leaking". The other day I did a 4.5 mile run and at about the 3 mile mark I had to walk the rest of the way because I couldn't stop leaking. I don't feel the urge to pee at all It just comes out and fills a whole pad. UGH!!! I could have easily run the last mile and a half, but my shorts were starting to get so wet. Any tips, advice, suggestions. Anything welcome to help me not be completely gross at the finish line on Saturday.

Wow. I don't have that problem at all. My suggestion is Kegel's to strengthen your pelvic floor and see a Doctor to see if there is a physical issue that needs addressed. Good luck with your 5k.0

Ditto that. I've got 2 kids and run marathons and never had any leakage problem. If it's that bad I would suggest seeing a doctor.0 -
agree with the ladies about performing pelvic floors. try and do them as often as you can. 4 months post baby and running! kudos to you. I had this prob recently whilst i was pg (unfortunately i had an mmc 2 weeks ago) as with my daughter. I kept leaking and had to wear a pad or find the nearest loo! i would say for your race, make sure you register well ahead of time and go to the ladies before you have to run. If you can make it to 3miles then an extra 200yards shouldnt be too bad.
pelvic floors loads and loads of them. it does get better!0 -
Thanks everyone. The article posted above mentioned that over-hydration could be a cause. I usually have AT LEAST ten glasses a day but probably average twelve to fourteen (Think I took the "make sure to get plenty of water while breastfeeding" to an extreme. HA!). Anyway, I've restricted myself to nine glasses a day for the past two days. This morning i drank half a glass before i went on the same 4 mile run and I finished strong and dry. WOO HOO! Thanks for all the support. :bigsmile:0

Yay! I don't think I'd be able to run at all if I drank that much. I have to pee at least once every 10 k as it is!0
