Resources for loved ones??

Hi, everyone-
I've been a member of this group for a while, but this is my first time posting... I'm a recovering bulimic and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of resources that explain to loved ones of people with eating disorders how to deal with it.

I am a newly wed, and my ED has been more or less under control the whole time we've been together (almost three years now), but I have had occassional binge/purge relapses. I've learned the tools on how to keep an occassional relapse from becoming a slippery slope back to old behaviors, but my husband doesn't get it. Yesterday, I don't even remember what brought it up, someone mentioning "bingeing" or something and he asked when the last time was I made myself purge, and I responded "a few months ago", and he flipped out because apparently the last time he asked me was a few months ago and my response was the same, so I must have "lied to him". Yes, when I've had a momentary relapse, I don't share it with him each time because the topic always triggers anger in him. I tried to explain that getting angry and behaving like he is punishing me for misbehaving is not helpful to someone recovering from an eating disorder.

I know it just freaks him out because he loves me and he just doesn't understand the best way to deal with the situation. So if anyone knows of good resources to point him to so he can better understand how to cope with this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Meganne, I am also in recovery from anorexia/bulimia! I can definitely relate to your situation because my parents had never even heard of an eating disorder before I was diagnosed so needless to say they were very scared and confused by it... my therapist recommended this book: http://www.amazon.com/Surviving-Eating-Disorder-Third-Edition/dp/0061698954 to give to them-- it's specifically for friends and family of ED sufferers and contains TONS of info and advice for them! Hope this helps and best of luck in your recovery <3!
