I was talking to a single guy friend of mine in TX the other day and he asked if I'd help with his profile on POF. We got something set up and then he wanted me to check out a few girls he thought were cute. I created an account for me so I could look.

Anyway, I put on there that I was looking for a relationship... long term.

No picture listed, very vague profile but did not put I was looking for a booty call.

I have nearly 10 messages now, all wanting just a quickie and one guy even sent a photo of his junk WITH a RULER next to it! WTF! Is this site really like this?

    It can be........I have not had many of those responses (thank goodness), but after you have been there a few days it will die down...it is because you are "new blood" for the piranhas out there!!

    I have heard POF is turning into sort of a hook-up site. The sketchiness is always a little bit worse with the free sites.

    In Minneapolis that is how the site is. There are 5 single ladies in my dept that use the site. They exchange horror stories at lunch they are the same as my experience there. I no longer online date because I can find that type of man on my own at the club after a few drinks LOL.

    The site can definitely be like that, but you need to weed through all of that. I met my boyfriend on there, and it's been a year and a half and we are going strong. He is actually moving in this month. I think it can be good, but again you need to be very cautious. That's with anything really!

    It seems like the hook up category limits their options so they don't really care what you are looking for. I get those all the time.

    I'm on POF as well, looking for a serious relationship. Women can be just as sketchy. I've definately have gotten pictures that weren't asked for.

    I have yet to get any pictures...thankfully!

    I did get an email from guy a few weeks ago, telling me his name was John...the other day he sent another message, obviously he forgot that he previously emailed me and said his name was Adam :huh: . I mean, if you are going to use a fake name, at least be consistent :laugh:

    I never got a pic like that, although today I got my first email asking if I liked to be a dirty girl and if I wanted to "release tensions" with him.

    Geez - I have met some really nice guys on there though. Matter of fact a guy that I have I guess been seeing regularly but not exclusive yet (been dating since Jan) is taking me camping in two weeks.

    POF you can set email to "must not have messaged usesrs looking for intimate encounters or sex" That eliminates most of them.

    Not sure how much size matters but it sure makes a difference!...wow...

    i was on POF for like 2 minutes and when i had several guys about 25ish IM on there, sending me messages, etc. one guy wanted to make a baby with me! another just wanted to drive to my house and have me look at him while he GOT erect.

    i mean, it was insane. i had to turn off the IM thingy and change the "who is allowed to message you." thankfully once i did that, it got a bit better. but i still received c*ck shots. and requests for boob pics. i was only on there a couple weeks before i said forget it!!! it made me feel all icky cuz i'm NOT looking for a hook up, one night stand, booty call, FWB, FB, or anything REMOTELY close!!!!

    Um, yeah... NO date! First off... NOT impressed with the junk... second... he's 14 years younger and I have to draw a line somewhere. However, even if he was my age... still NOT impressed. Um, ewwwwww!

    I found the same. The trash came pouring in when I first signed up - both through emails and IMs. Thankfully, someone pointed out these filters to me pretty early on. Since then, most of the uber-forward guys have been filtered by the system. I have actually gone on a few nice dates from POF.

    My favorite site is OKCupid.com - like POF, it's free, but I find its design to be much more user-friendly. I can't be certain at the moment, but think there are filters that need to set on that site too.

    Guys have figured this out. Most the ones looking for sex that I know put that they are there "to hang out". I read some things from some guys, too that they may have replied back to a female that had intimate encounters on her page, and then he got blocked. In reality, he could have just emailed to say "not interested" or "nice hat" and then he was considered to be on the forbidden list. I don't know but I know they are getting around the intimate encounter blocks.

    I was on there for a few weeks - to be honest I feel like I'm pimping myself on those sites lol Which is ironic given that's how I met my ex husband... but the reality is that those types of people are everywhere, they just have less impulse control online as it is more annonymous.

    I think there are some good people on there, like others have said you just need to wade through them. I don't drink and would prefer to be with someone who also doesn't drink - cuts down my choices in a big way!
