I did it! I completed my first marathon in 4:54:55. My knees started to give out around mile 15, so it was a little disappointing, but I still finished in under 5 hours (which was my goal).

Awesome! I just finished my first as well. Congrats, especially since you were having issues at mile15!

Thank you everyone! I'm really feeling it today. Any tips on speeding up the recovery? How long do I take off before running/working out again?

Normally, I will run an EASY 10 minute the day after a marathon and then do all easy runs up to about 4-6 miles the rest of the week.

Running / working out will actually speed your recovery. Just take it EASY

I can't bend or go up and down stairs, so I think that may be out for today :(

Congrats! Mine lasted 3 days. It feels so good to work out again, even if it's on the light side. All week people were asking if I'd do this again and my answer was "I'm not so sure, probably not" and now that I feel better my answer has changed to "probably, I know I can do better." :)

I could barely walk after my first marathon....running was out of the question. I just tried to walk around as much as possible to keep my legs loose. I probably took 2-3 full weeks off from running.

I do have to say the more marathons you do, the faster you recover. Last year after my 4th full I really wasn't that sore at all, I think I was out doing a 3 mile run 2 days later. Your body apparently gets used to whatever you put it through on a regular basis. LOL!
