Anyone else have problem thighs but skinny elsewhere?

Hi,

I am always told I dont need to loose weight but that is because I have mastered the art of hiding my thinder thighs! I am well out of proportion and can't seem to shrink my thighs?

I fast-walk for 60 mins as excercise and do bodybalance class and find that when I do these at least 3 times a week each, my thighs shrink a bit but still don't look in proportion!

I also tried 'magic pants' to pull me in but even then, I struggle to fit in size 10 trousers (I am a size 6 on top!) and dresses are generally out of the question!

Anyone have the same problem or have any good advice?

Thank you :-)

No advice really because I'm in the same boat! I'm extremely pear-shaped.
But I think us pear-shaped girls need to focus on getting tons of our leg muscles built up and add in fat burning cardio. The combo has sloooowwllllyyyy been resulting in my thunder thighs shrinking for the first time since puberty. :) Muscle is more compact and nicer looking than fat. :)

I carry my weight exactly the same way. People who see my in jeans and baggy T-shirts always think I'm way bigger than I am, but then when they see me in a fitted dress, they say, "You're tiny!" The thing is, I AM tiny (though not THAT tiny), but only on top. On the bottom I'm kinda huge. I hate it, but I AM glad that I don't gain weight in my stomach. I've hated my thighs since I was a little kid, but I think having big thighs is easier to hide than having a huge stomach.
It's sort of something I just have to come to terms with, though, because I always lose weight everywhere but my thighs first. And even when I did gymnastics and my thighs were really muscular, I HATED them. I just don't want them to be big at all, no matter if it's muscle or fat. But I'm working on that, because my only other option is to starve, and I have a feeling I still couldn't starve my thighs down to my ideal size.

Im 5'7 and have a 25 inch waist....if it gets much thinner I'm going to crack in two. But I also have this 36 inch *kitten* I'd like to get rid of so I can get into something less then an 8. If you figure out the solution let me know lol
  • Im 5'2, and used to be quite pear shaped. My thighs (and calfs) have always been the problem area for me. It just always felt like my bottom half was dis-proportionately large and stumpy looking. But Ive got some good news- losing is tough, but not impossible! I started out at about 150lbs (size 10). It took about 4 months of super restrictive dieting to see some real progress, and I made it down to 120lbs (size 4-6). I will warn that as my bottom half shrunk, so did the top. (Nothing a good push up bra couldn't fix) It took about another 4 months to get down to 110lbs (size1-2) and finally all of me was proportionately thin. My only two issues: dieting that restrictively can get unhealthy- and when you get to your goal, its hard to maintain. (I loosened up on my dieting and gained back ten pounds almost instantly-still trying to shed them back off.) Also, i did minimal regular exercise. So when I got down to 110lbs i was just skin and bone. I was very thin, but looked a bit deflated and unhealthy. Id really recommend doing some toning exercises along the way to get a toned, healthy looking body. And the most important thing is this: if you really want results, its not just about a diet or an exercise regiment- Its a complete lifestyle change, and it takes a great deal of patience and commitment. Good luck girl, you can do it!

Snap! I've lost so much weight but only gone down a couple of clothes sizes on the bottom half. My thighs are still wobbly and my hips are still wide. I've started doing squats and lunges but have problem knees that grate and creak.

Any suggestions for other lower body but knee friendly exercises??

I'm a pear shape, so it's hard for me to lose weight in my thighs and hips. About a month ago though, I started doing the abductor/adductor machine. That seemed to tone up and slim down my thighs more than anything else. The actual shape changed, and my legs aren't as jiggly.

Thighs are always the last place i lose weight, don't mind having wider hips cause i like my hourglass, but would love slimmer inner thighs!

This is my trouble area....small everywhere else (even started losing it off my butt) but larger thighs. Hoping more cardio will help with that and it will come in time.

I have the exact same problem... I'm tiny waist up. Just really massive thighs and calves... Streching did slim my calves a bit recently

I have always hated my thighs. I'm tiny on top, unfortunately I was blessed with no chest. I create the illusion of smaller thighs, by building muscle in my upper body. My shoulders are now wider than my hips. Lifting weights does wonders for the whole body. I've embraced my big thighs and made them stronger:) the muscle definition helps them look smaller. As you lift everything else will shrink, and I do tons of cardio to lose the fat. Good eating habits help too. You can't spot reduce, just work with what you have and make it look good.

I'm so happy I saw this group! This has been my main problem since high school! Even when I try to tone up and tighten my thighs and hips I end up bulky looking and at 5'4, this makes me look larger. My calves will be the first part of my legs to gain muscle, which is a double edged sword because even though I'll take toning where ever I can get it, when I eased up on the weight training this winter, I started to notice stretch marks on my calves below my knees! Devestating! Any help is appreciated :/

I will AMEN to that LOL
  • i found running and weight training my legs shrunk them a little bit, enough for me to like them, because they look toned, but ive come to accept that they'll never be super thin. pear for the rest of my life, lol
