Safe Calorie Range

What would you guys consider too few calories to safely lose weight. I am currently eating around 1780 a day (that is what MFP tells me to eat). I also exercise and usually do not use my exercise calories. I don't consistently lose 2 pounds a week like it says I should. Usually about 1 pound to a pound and a half. Should I cut my calories more? I think I am getting in plenty as to prevent starvation mode. I want to lose at least my 2 a week and maybe a bit more. Feel free to look at my diary but please skip this last weekend (I screwed up royally and didn't log everything). Does anyone go a good bit lower than their suggest calories and still lose? Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that it's not really a good idea for men to go below 1600 calories per day.
I'm trying to eat about 1800 calories per day, though I allow myself to slide up to 2000 (and I don't fret if I go as high as 2400, because I was losing weight at a pretty good clip three years ago eating that many calories per day -- but I'd rather pretend that I didn't know that and stick to the 1800/2000 range).0 -
My metabolism has crapped out on me in the last 3 or 4 years (after I had to have my gall bladder removed). I struggled to get any weight off now. Sometimes I wonder if my blood pressure medicine has caused it or my age.0

If you are consistently losing any weight, I wouldn't cut it any more. It took us a long time to put it on, no rush on getting it off and it will make the change "stick" better if you go gradually.0

I use 1500 net as a hard bottom. Generally I eat most of my exercise back. I'm still over 300 and average about 14 lbs a month. I also tend to weigh my food or eat the whole package of something (over the course of a week) figuring that way I capture all the calories, even if one day may have been a little higher than logged and another will be lower by the same amount.
You can't really rush the weight loss, and I have big fluctuations throughout the week I may put on three then take off 5 I figure that is my body just doing what it needs to do. So long as my graph's best fit line is headed in the right direction I try not to worry about it.
It took me 22 years to get to 378 I guess if it takes 3 to get where I want to be that is just the way the universe works.
You will probably be surprised how fast your life improves, out of proportion to your weight loss. I have to keep reminding myself that there are things I'm still to big to do (running) because I want to make sure I don't get injured.0 -
I won't go below about 1400 - 1500. At 1400 I was loosing 2 lbs a week, but I'm concerned about how much muscle was going out with it.... I'm going to be happy with 1lb/week from here on out.
I recently swapped my goals from MFP's 1680 + exercise to a total of 2100 including exercise. I figured out what I was burning per week in exercise, and added about 60% of it back into my daily intake. I did that because I was feeling really uncomfortable trying to take in 3000+ calories a day on heavy workout days.
I used this page to setup my new goals if you're interested http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/0 -
i would never go below around 1700 - i weigh 183 now (5'6") and my bmr on fat to fit tells me to eat around 2200 calories. i will admit i have cut back lately - i was at 2000 plus exercise then eating it all and losing but then my weight popped up - now i'm at 1750 and not eating my exercise calories and i seem to have stalled as well. Still going to stick it out for the weight in but i'm not overly optomistic. I did read somewhere to eat your base (whatever your base would be) because your body needs the nutrients. It did say that you dont need to eat back calories if you didnt want to but it does recommend to from time to time. I like the ideology behind that and think its a good long term strategy. I do see some guys eating around 1000 calories - if i did that i'd be waking up with hunger. i do use the http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/ from time to time as well as a reminder of how i am doing.0

I was wondering that as well. I see so many people on here around 1200 and I know I couldn't do that, so I set mine at 1800. At one point the suggestions was to go up to 2100 as my app was giving me grief. The too little could lead to ...... But I've been able to maintain 1800-2000 including my walking. I feel good, and I'm not starving. I noticed though I will have an over day at least once a week and then a very low day following. I need to get an eating schedule going, and choose better foods. Still eating some junk, but in recommended amounts. AND I need to learn to eat earlier and not late at night.0
