Is anyone else stuck with the same 4-5 pounds?

Seriously, come talk to me. I have been on here since January 2011 at 173 (having come down from 189 with Weight Watchers between October to December 2011 - (with little or no exercise too)).
I go back and forth between 173 and 169 every month, back and forth. I never go lower than 169, apart from a brief flirtation with 168 which I put down to an anomaly on my old scale. Anyway - new scales, upping calories from 1200 to 1500, more exercise 2 -3 times a week on average (strength training and a bit of cardio), upping my cardio by starting C25k last week - and still no change. It doesn't seem to matter how much or how little I eat. I have tried not logging, I have tried having spike days. It still stays the same!
I weighed in ON SUNDAY I was 169. Today I am 173 - which could be down down to PMS symptoms. I exercised 3 times last week and barely went up to my 1500 calories and ate as low carb as I could.
Even though my sudden weight gain could be PMS, the point is I never seem to get below 169 and I just can't figure it out. Is anyone else stuck like this or is it just me?

yes, so now I am dropping calories a lot more than before and shaking things up with my exercise as well as with what I am eating. You said yourself that you are in better shape than you have been in a long time. That definitely counts for something!!! PMS is nasty. I gained about 6 lbs this time around. It definitely is not real weight!!! You are a creature of habit like me. Time to change what you are doing in a drastic way to get things moving along. You could have eaten a fair amount of sodium yesterday. Hang in there it will disappear as long as you don't get depressed by it and comfort eat. Hugs, I TOTALLY feel your pain but you know that already.

Thanks Lara. I almost gave into it and bought some wine. But I didn't ( ) thank goodness - I would have regretted it tomorrow!
If I could just go below 169, psychologically that would mean a lot. I don't want to starve myself or kill myself with exercise - just make some adjustments that will be long lasting. I see a lot of people on here with big losses in the time I have been on here - with similar weight to lose as me. However when you check out their diaries, you find that they are practically starving themselves (eating less than 1200 calories) and creating huge deficits with exercise. I don't want to do that - it is a quick fix. Sure you will lose lots of weight, but unless you can sustain that way of eating and exercising (and in the long term it is unsustainable) all the weight will come back on. and I don't want that. :noway:0 -
I totally understand what you are saying. By drastic I meant change up what you are eating, change the amount of calories you eat daily, eat at maintenance for a little while and then drop down in calories, You have to be smarter than the weight that wants to stick to your body. What you are doing isn't currently working so you have to problem solve in order to get it moving again. Once it moves, it will move a lot. Then you will most likely get stuck again because it is the nature of the beast and you will have to change things up again. I hope for both of us we can figure out where our ZONE is. If you need me I am here xxxooo0

Oh and I totally hate those border pounds they seem to be harder to lose than the others
. I am waiting not so patiently to get into the 140's. At this point I am going to allow myself to be a little hungry in order to get there. Then I can ease up a little bit. I remember feeling that way getting into the 150's. xxxooo

I am sure we will get there in the end - once we get past this sticky part! Oh when will it end :sad:0

I just ran across this today:
http://www.fat2fitradio.com
I put in my info and my daughter's info, and it came really close to our lean body mass. I'm thinking of trying this out. Yea, it's scary. I will be going from about 1,450 calories to 2,150 calories/daily. I can't say I can do it, but I'm gonna give it a try.
At least you can see what it says and if it is close to your lean body mass.0 -
I am stuck in almost exactly the same place! I started at 181.5 in Nov 2011 and got down to my lowest - 167.5 in early March. Since then I have been seesawing back and forth between 168 and 172. So I decided to change things up. In late March I bumped up my calories, and in April I switched from mostly doing cardio to doing strength training (weight machines at the gym) 3 days a week and cardio 2 days. And I am still stuck at about 169-171. The weight that I have lost is my "quit smoking" weight, and I am now about what I weighed for a few years before I quit. I think maybe this is what my body thinks I am supposed to weigh. lol. But it's getting a bit old. Not that I don't enjoy getting the same results while getting to eat more, but I would really like to lose another 25-30 pounds. Someday... But I figure at least I am getting stronger and healthier, even if I'm not getting any thinner. I have to admit, though - the day I see 167.0 I will probably do a major happy dance!!
PS - LesaDave - I actually used fat2fitradio.com to up my calories. I used the sedentary calories and eat back some (to all) of my exercise. I was afraid to use light or moderately active because I'm not always consistent with my exercise. I figured it would be safer to do it that way. I may change that though, as it's been 6 weeks with no loss. I just haven't decided if I should go up or down with my calories.0 -
Sometimes this whole thing becomes a mine field, we never know which step to take. Staying at the same calories can often be as potentially damaging to weight loss as upping them too high! (sighs)0

Exactly!! It seems weird that I was basically maintaining at about 1400-1500 calories plus exercise, and then I up them to 1700 plus exercise (usually end up at 1700-2000) and I am STILL maintaining! I do weigh myself every day (I'm a smidge OCD. Lol) so I will catch any gains relatively early so it doesn't get out of hand. But I refuse to eat less than the 1400 I was on so I guess I will give it another couple weeks and up them a little more. Doesn't look like I will be thin and buff by summer like I had hoped. Maybe next summer...0

I've been stuck at losing 4 lbs for the past month! Exercising 4-5 times a week and staying under my calories. I've lost inches, but I have no idea how to get over the 5lb hump! HELP!!0

Girl you are preachin' to the choir! I am struggling too- up and down , up and down and no matter what I do or don't do it.. doesn't seem to matter. it's beyond frustrating..but I have lost about 65 lbs .It has taken 3 years! the last time I weighed I lost about a lb.. it's coming off but it's creaping along. I flutuate so much that I only weigh about once a month it's too depressing.0

Just wanted to add that I'm in the same boat. I am heavier...got down to 229 in April (high of 263 in 2009). But like a bungee cord, I keep going up and down. Went as high as 236 the other day and am down to 232. Some of it's TOM.
Another way to look at is, this is a period of successful maintenance. Your body is getting used to a new weight before it allows more weight loss.
I started logging my food again very conscientiously. And, I think I might need more protein after hearing a nutritionist say you should eat 1 gram per pound of weight, divided by 2. So for a 200 lb person, that's 100 grams. (Some nutritionists, recommending subtracting 10 after dividing, so in this case it would be 90 g).
Good luck everyone! You're not alone!0 -
YEP, ME TOO! Been teeter tottering back and forth between 172 and 168 lbs!!! gggrrrrrr, so frustrating, I have been trying to switch up my routines and exercise as well, hopefully this will make a difference!0
