this is MY kind of Wii Fitness group! Here's a "for advanced - bonus booster" to this week's challenge.
IF you own a step bench, put your balance board on top of it, THEN do your 10 mins (or more) of Free Step (I average 30 mins on a short night , up to 90 on an active night when there is good tv watching or a movie on and always on the fastest metronome setting)
For intermediates - start with books under the feet of the balance board for SOME elevation, and work up over time to a higher step. Just NEVER make it higher than a 90 degree bend in your knee! (a body-mechanics limitation so that you do not injure your knee - unfair I know, but people with longer legs will be able to use higher benches)
I will be looking back over the previous challenges for things I've never thought to do (like the all strength exercises for 30 mins)

BMcC9 - to really spice up your free step try lifting a dumbbell over your head every time your right or left foot goes on or off the board (every 4th step?). Alternate arms. When I do this I add however many minutes to my log at 3 mets. It really adds to the calorie burn of the exercise.0

dougii - great idea! my upper body is much weaker than my lower body / cardio. Thanks :flowerforyou:
Just got to try it out first at slower pace, since I would still be stepping 6" up and have to make sure not throwing balance off  (maybe lift over head from shoulder OR lateral raise to shoulder hight? I will experiment.)0 -

OHH! I know ! Those tricep things where you hold one dumbbell in both hands over your head, then bend elbows so that it goes down behind you! Up as you step up, down as you step down ... just not for entire 30 mins! :laugh:0 -
I smell some great challenges coming up.....:happy:0

Here it is, the 5th. I have done more than 5 Free Step sessions (more than 10mins each) this week, so I guess this fulfills this week's challenge.
Can't wait to see what you come up with next!0 -
I hate to say it but I have pretty much stopped using my Wii except for my daily body check. I am using the elliptical at my local gym and running 6.5+ miles every other morning; lifting weights for 60 minutes plus 15 minutes on elliptical on the other days. Turns out I can burn way more calories in the same amount of time doing this instead of my Wii....weight is still dropping off and the doc took away one of my BP medicines this past Friday (NSV 100/70 WooHoo). Once I get to my target weight I will most likely go back to the Wii as I tone down some of the exercise.....we will see as I am becoming addicted to the gym (LOL).0
