This popped up on my Google+ feed today. I'm not a big comic book fan, but thought it interesting nonetheless:

BUT WON'T THIS JUST INVALIDATE ALL THOSE STRAIGHT SUPER HERO MARRIAGES or however that's supposed to work.....

As a comic book collector, I remember when Northstar was first revealed to be gay. So glad to see him getting married! *geek moment*

I know one that involves Superman...

Our local comic book shop is looking for a gay couple to get married at their store in celebration of this. I really wonder if they'll find anyone though. It would have to be a pretty special couple. Gay, loves comics, engaged, want to get married really soon and yet haven't made any plans whatsoever.

I'm just tired of people saying this is some sort of 'stunt' to boost sales. So what if it is? I'd like to be able to read comics with relationships that I can relate to, as well! And i'm not just talking about lesbian fan service either.

I mean ffs, people say its a stunt to boost sales- of course its going to boost sales- because its opening up an untouched demographic of readers, instead of heterosexual cismales that read it for the fact hot tits gets with washboard abs and Save the world with goodness.

When my local comic book store posted about this on their facebook feed- it became a fire storm of 'Gays in comics is retarded'. It really made me feel alienated to even go back to the store at this point, so I really don't know how I'll get my comic fix - I like having physical copies. The next nearest one is like an hour drive away. This one is in walking distance.

:/ maybe put on your rainbow shirt and go back in there and let the owners (or whoever manages the facebook feed) know how it made you feel. Its important for people to remember that comments on the internet are just as hurtful to their customers as comments in person in their store. And if they don't handle it well/maturely/not like jerks then I guess you'll have to either use an online service or start driving an hour. But that sucks, so try to salvage your relationship with them first.
