Journey to an Ironman

For those that have done an Ironman or are training from one, could you give me insight as to how long before you decided to do one? I know that it is on my radar in the next few years.
Here is my schedule:
2012-2 Sprints 1 Olympic
2013-2-3 Sprints, 1 70.6, 1-2 Olympics
2014-Ironman
Realistic?
Or am I rushing something that shouldn't be rushed?

Very doable. Do you what IM race you want to do? Many are in the fall (easier to train for in many places around the country). If a fall race I would add another HIM and Oly in there.0

Not rushing at all. I just caution that you know the commitment you are making. 4-6 months of having a part time job essentially. I wouldn't necessarily pick a fall one for my first because I live in Houston and training through the summer would suck..... a lot.0

That's similar to what my journey to Ironman was like.0

Same here. Did a 1/2 last year. Training for a full now. Good luck!0

Not rushing at all, I went from my first sprint to my first Ironman in 11 months....granted that's not a normal path but I've done 4 now in 5 years and never looked back.
You need the support fo loved ones though as the training hours are immense, it can put a strain on everyday life if you don't have that support.
Good luck.0
